Re: Lower Class Winner At National Event
How about IHRA? Has Tom Gould won anything with his Corvair? And there was a FWD driver from Virginia(?) who had a good run a few years ago. I'm drawing a blank right now.

The FWD car was Tim Griffith. H e finished 2nd in the world that year but he also drove a mopar wagaon U/SA car at some of the 1/4 mile races.
He also helped me win the div 9 championship in2003 by loaning me his h/ps mustang to get record points. Very good racer and all round good guy Chip Johnson |

Re: Lower Class Winner At National Event
In IHRA Randall Campbell made 13 Natl. finals won 8 in his 67 chevyII wagon Y/SA,also won 91 IHRA stock championship, not sure how many WCS wins, also 2 track championships @ Clay City,Ky.
I think that Randall would have to high up on win list in slow stockers. Chip, Where is Tim I have'nt seen or heard of him in awhile,he terrorized them @ Lake Cumberland about 8-10 years ago w/Jeep cherokee running Super Pro, No Box and Footbrake Mike Taylor3601 Last edited by Mike Taylor 3601; 03-23-2011 at 08:29 AM. |

Re: Lower Class Winner At National Event
Don't know if it is considered a lower class or not, but one of the most prolific national event winners has got to be Jody Lang

Re: Lower Class Winner At National Event
Bob Shaw's (#1 qualifier) times were 16.27,16.26, 16.23, 18.49 (single),16.23 (semi). Malfunctioning timers kept the elapsed times from being recorded in the final but the win lights clearly gave the decision to Shaw. Caisson (Y/SA) ran a 16.77 in the semi against Joe Swarz's (V/S) 16.08. On Monday, NHRA put 5hp on the 95hp Corvair moving it up to Y/S (24lbs).

Re: Lower Class Winner At National Event
What about Tommy Mattingly's wins a few years back with a O/SA combination older than dirt? Does that not count? Or Jody Lang with his N/SA? Or are those cars too fast?

Re: Lower Class Winner At National Event
George Williams was runner-up to Les Young's R/SA 66 Chevy wagon at the 73 Winternationals. He reset the Y/Stock national record at 17.22/77.05.
