Default Don Grotheer's 67 Plymouth Hemi Super Stock

I friend of mine called me and said Don had called him looking for his 67 Plymouth Race Car.

Don sold the car to Weldon Christian in Tulsa. However neither Weldon's son Steve, or myself can remember to whom Weldon sold the car. Not exactly sure when Weldon sold the car, probably late 60's early 70's. For some reason I have a recollection it went to Arkansas, but I could be way off.

I have attached photos of the car when Don had it and another when Weldon and Steve had it.

Please post any information you may have here.

Thanks,
Bill Lamb

I'm going to see someone today that was heavily involved in drag racing in that era...I will ask him if he knows anything....

Funny that you bring this up, I had a guy text me the other day & asked if I could build him a set of stahl headers for this car since it had them on it then.... It is being restored.

I have a set of stahls I got from Don hanging on my wall. If Don can verify it's his old car I'd sell them to the current owner.

Are these the same car?

One is a stick and one is automatic! Second owner convert it?

Tommy would you mind asking him if it would be okay to give his contact information to Don? I would imagine they would both like to talk to the other.

Thanks,
Bill

Yes, Weldon and Steve ran the car as a four speed for a while. Not too long after they got it the "cast steel" Mopar flywheel when through Ansen bell housing and did quite a bit of damage to the firewall. They got that fixed and then continued to break a lot of parts.

They got tired of breaking parts (it was something like 3,700 pounds) and went to an automatic.

Hi Bill, the last time I talked to him he was getting in contact with him as I asked for more pics of the header style that was on that car. As everyone knows every header changed around that time with the testing that was going on. I will build him the most accurate to what was on the car at that time. I own all the stahl fixtures for mopars. No I don't build headers for a living just have them all for when someone wants a set. Even better when I get contacted about doing some for a real car!

Tommy,

I'll check with Don and make sure he has heard from him.

Here is a picture of at least one set of headers that were on the car when Don had it.

The car had Hooker headers towards the end but I don't think these look like them.

Thanks,
Bill
