Default GT 55 Chevy

Looking for some input on building a 55 Chevy 2 door wagon to run GT class. Looks like car would fall into G, H, I area depending on motor used. Thinking 327-275-300 HP, or 350- 295-300 HP. Going with 5 speed Liberty. Not looking to set any records, just wanting to run a few divisionals with it. ( Also looking for old SS motor close to above)
Thanks
Dave

Go through the rule book starting with Super Stock, the trans rules are the same for GT. You must use the same number of foreword gears as stock except that a three speed can be replaced with a four speed.

Couple of nice '55s running in GT out here in the Pacific NorthWest. Not wagons, but nice builds.

Dale,,, can you post a photo or two of Gary Howe's beautiful, wheelstanding '55 210 2 door sedan, preferably in GT trim? I'm betting you have some pics from past seasons, can't tell I love that car can you? Nothing like the sound of a high winding, small block stick car in my book. Thanks.

Here are a pair of Tri-5s from the NorthWest. Not wagons, but I couldn't find one. There is a S/G 55 wagon out here, though.

The blue car is Gary Howe in GT/L with a stick. The burgundy car is SS/OA. I don't know the driver beyond the door name.

The maroon 55 Chev is Jim Johnstons car from BC Canada. Jim has owned the car since 1967, and Jim and his brother, the late Rick Johnstion raced the car as a MP car in the early years. Later on when Rick got his 56 Chev, the 55 spend many years as driveway art, complete with its green lace paint job. Jim and his son Ken turned it into a S/S car about 25 years ago, and with Ken driving, won the Seattle National event in the mid 90s. They did a complete resto on the car a few years ago. Another Div. 6 55 Chev S/S car is the stick BelAir 2 dr hardtop, which along with a 57 sedan, are raced by the Parmenter family, I believe out of Oregon. Also, although he has not ran it in GT as far as I know, Rick Pike sometimes runs his 55 in a Modified class.

Dale, you are correct. The engine combination dictates the number of foward gears in GT. The engines mentioned earlier are four speed combs.

I started out in a 56. Sounds like a neat ride to me.

If I remember right, it's a '64 220hp 283 with a 4 speed.

The front fender of the large version of the first photo reads "265 c.i." That may not be what's under the hood, though.

EDIT: The current record for GT/L is listed as "minimum", so the Record Holder paint on Gary's car is dated. Motor is probably as noted above by Jim.
