LODRS payout increases ideas
Lets hear some constructive ideas.
I will start: Assume a 64 car field here in D-1 if we increase the cost from $170 to $225 and increase the payouts to: 3rd round $225......get your entry fee back....versus current $100 4th round $325.............................................. .versus current $150 5th round $425.............................................. .versus current $200 6th round final in this example Win...$2,500.....versus current $1,500 Runner Up $1,000.....versus current $600 Payout increase in this example is $3,550 versus the increase fee of $3,520. The entry fee of the races is a fraction of most racers true cost of showing up. It would be nice to have the purses be more significant! Re: LODRS payout increases ideas
Here is my proposal. And it involves no increase in entry fees.
It is our job to make sure as many race cars as possible get to the track to race, and it is NHRA/Track owners job to make sure there are fans in the stands that not only buy pit passes, but buy the Drag Dogs and T-shirts that they sell. I think NHRA and the track owners have gotten lazy and expect to operate without any fans in the stands. There were 80 Stockers at the Houston division race last weekend and 20 fans in the stands. I submit that there is an average of one crew member pass sold for every car & driver pass sold. |

Your idea is a good one but what we don't know is:
How much does the track have to pay nhra to have a points race at their track ??

Re: LODRS payout increases ideas
If the payout increased, it would be decent. The way things are going I can see the entry fee being the $225 with the payout the same as it is now in 5 years. About 5 or so years ago a track was to put up around 10K to host a Divisional Points meet, no idea what it is now.

Re: LODRS payout increases ideas
I hear the track pays thousands to put on the race with entry's going to Nhra. It's up to Nhra to pay more. NotGonnaHappen Eric good idea but the increase is a bit steep for most folks. We need to find sponsor s like D-6 does with comp. Separate fund awarded on the side.

Re: LODRS payout increases ideas
NHRA isn't going to increase the payout because they don't have to. But something could be done among the racers but would take someone to do it. Back in the early 80's where I was bracket racing had a side pot you could get in if you wanted, strictly up to you. Now the track did run this. The entry was $25 and the side pot was I believe an additional $10. Their normal payout was $200 to win. They would always have about 100 cars in each of the 4 brackets, I was racing in bracket 2 or pro as it was called. The way it worked was winner got 1/2 the pot and r/u 1/2 of what was left and semi's split what was left, or something like that I am probably off on exact numbers but you guys understand the concept. Now if any of the winners were not in the pot the money was split with the ones that were. I won several times and the side pot was always more than the regular payout, 500-600 in 1981 was good money to win then. So when we have a race now with the better part of 100 cars and people kick $20 or so into a side pot the money to win gets a lot better. This should only be for the top 4 places again only people in the pot could win the pot. I don't think the powers to be would be much in favor of it because it would be upstaging them some, but I could be wrong.

Re: LODRS payout increases ideas
Yes, the "pot" idea is a good one too. Probably 1 idea that would work.
Pay the last 4 or 8 cars left. Div.1 gets at least 90-100 plus Stockers at a Divisional, so that would be some Nice Additional Money To Get !!!!! I'd say an extra $20. per driver.
