Re: 69 camaro power to manual steering
J & S,
you can easily find a direct bolt on, original fit for 69 Camaro. During the 60's many Chevrolet models were equipped with manual steering and the interchangeability is wide. The S-10 box if slightly larger and slightly heavier than the correct box for your 69. The Vega box is not a direct replacement and not a good choice for the weight of a 69 Camaro. Look on eBay and racing junk. In addition, a number of vendors offer rebuilt factory boxes. Surfing the web will show plenty of options. |

Re: 69 camaro power to manual steering
I have a Vega box in my car. Gives a bit more room for headers. There is a pitman arm available for the Vega box in a gen 1 Camaro. I fabricated mine.

Re: 69 camaro power to manual steering
If you need a manual box, I've got one that's in nice shape.
If you'll spring for the shipping, I'll contribute it to your project. -Al

Re: 69 camaro power to manual steering
Seems that the drag link and the Pittman arm is different on the manual steering cars, in fact, the Pittman arm has the swivel with the grease fitting, which goes into a tapered hole in the drag link. Power steering Pittman arms had the tapered hole for the drag link and the drag link had the swivel points on it. There were four main parts to buy or find on this conversion-the steering box, the rag joint, the Pittman arm and the drag link.We bought a replacement 69 Camaro Pittman arm from Moog several years ago. Best wishes on a great project!

Re: 69 camaro power to manual steering
all 1st gen -1967-69 f body pittman & idler arms have the tapered stud. the only difference between manual & power are the sizes of the hole with the splines is smaller on the manual pittman arms. the center link has the 4 tapered holes for the pittman ,idler& inner tie rods. the center link for some manual cars had a smaller o.d. than the ones with power.mostly the 67 cars. this saved a few lbs. some said the smaller dia. ones would bend on a wheelstanding car,but i had the same one on my ss/e 427 for 15 yrs. w/no problems. the 68-74 x bodies were same as the 67-69 f bodies. the 67's had a different idler arm length because the mounting holes to the frame rail were in a different spot from the 68-69's. flaming river used to make a new aluminum vega box& pittman arm kit. but have discontinued it since. i have one of them on my gt/a camaro that works nice.
