If so, 2008 models would be legal next year. The only thing stopping me right now from running my 2005 GT in Pure Stock is the cam. IHRA needs for Ford to submit the 2005 cam specs. That car will run the PS index right now and it still has the stock exh. manifolds with stock cat. convertors, stock 3.31 rear gears and completely stock auto trans.

I still wonder if maybe the variable cam deal kinda freaked out tech and rather than find a way to check those cams, they simply decided it wasn't worth the hassle to allow them ? Or...was it a political decision based on pressure from some well financed racers that do not like late models ? Who knows... I have no idea what the real reason was why they backtracked on your car, but that was the first thing I thought when I heard that the newer cars were not legal.

Re: Pure Stock Challenge - IHRA
Some random thoughts:
It's obvious NHRA will never go backwards in Stock Eliminator, so we will never see a "Junior Stock " type deal ever again. IHRA has very limited exposure in the states, thus the Pure Stockers have very few places to race. Other than IHRA, the only group that gladly welcomes IHRA Pure Stockers is the NMCA...they welcome ALL IHRA class cars. I plan to help support the NMCA with their new combo races this year by entering into their Bowling Green and Indy races. It would be great tho if the Pure Stock Drags had a separate class that welcomed the IHRA Pure Stockers http://www.psmcdr.com/

You just gave me an idea! I will see if NMCA will allow the Pure Stock Challenge added to their races? Then we need to beat on NHRA. Would love to invite the Pure Stock Drag guys in as well. As for moving the 2005 limit. IHRA has very few people who can measure our Cams. Remember it is the Old Stocker Rules for Overlap and Duration. I know it it a pain to sort through the Blueprinted Cams. Think the deal should be changed to a max spring pressure. Like they have been giving us around 100lb seat for most of us. Have a limit on the other cars that came Stock with higher pressure. Toss the complex cam Duration measurement and measure Lift only. Simplifies the process. It is called the KISS principle...Keep it sweet and Simple! This will take time to negotiate. Everything else remains the same with lifters and rockers. The IHRA guys work their butts off. Teching a Pure Stocker is time consuming and new rational process needs to be implemented.. But hey..we are talking and the community is jelling! Hacksaw btw thank you for chiming in...it is appreciated! D Last edited by Dan Fahey; 02-14-2017 at 11:11 PM. |

Re: Pure Stock Challenge - IHRA
Dan:
I see the Pure Stock Drags are limited to 1979 and older. Too bad they do not have a 1980 and newer class with the same type of rules. That would be cool seeing the EFI cars competing in Stock appearing trim. There is another group of racers that look stock but run wicked fast... The F.A.S.T. ( Factory Appearing Stock Tire) cars are limited to 70's and older models. http://www.fastdrags.com/index.html They also have Factory Stock ( with strict rules) Years ago I had an idea: I thought what the heck...now that the 1983 and newer cars were getting older, why not apply the same rules to the newer models ? Newer cars are a lot easier to afford than say a 1973 Super Duty 455 Trans Am or a 440 6BBL Road Runner. Cars would look stock on the outside but allow any internal mods that could be hidden. (except for nitrous) Or a class with stock spec internals much like IHRA Pure Stock. There are lots of classes out there where guys can race the older stuff in "Stock" classes, but no one allows late model Pure Stockers except for the IHRA.

Re: Pure Stock Challenge - IHRA
IHRA classes are allowed with the Arizona S/SS Association..
Also with Allstar Racing in New England.. Plus whatever assoc's that appreciate the car count. Usually no lane choice for Pure/S.

Sadly, around here Pure Stock is not allowed at either track in their Combo Races.

Dan:
As far as beating on NHRA, my gut feeling is that would be a waste of time. It's been discussed many times on this board about "corporate" decisions that are made in Glendora and most of the time they do not favor sportsman racers. You would be better off spending your time talking with the NMCA or the Pure Stock Drags. The NMCA right now seems receptive to new ideas and since they already have 6 combo races scheduled this year, maybe you could convince them to do a special race within a race for the Pure Stockers ?

Re: Pure Stock Challenge - IHRA
Mark is wright eastcoast stock/superstock asscoiation allows all nhra and ihra class cars including pure stock to run there combo races and running them along with some 3 or 4 ihra events was the plan for this year but with the mustang not legal now that leaves me out of both. So as of now it leave me with NMRA ford muscle index class ( thank you Alan) and local bracket racing and with all the stock/superstock cars in this area wen. night gambler races are as competitive as a national event they are a lot of fun.
