Super Street National Championship

Why do Super Comp/Gas get a championship but not s/st ?

My guess is that since they don't run super street at all nationals then no national championship, just a guess though.

Super Street has "traditionally" been an entry level class designed for the local (as in Divisional area) racer who might not have the resources to pursue a National Championship with all the travel and expense associated with that. Up until about three years ago a racer couldn't run another class if they were running S/ST, again trying to develop the local racer and to prevent racers with more resources from doubling into the "entry level" class. Current route is for the S/ST racer to step up to S/G or S/C if they want the national exposure and expenses that go along with that. The quality of today's typical S/ST operation if virtually on par with other sportsman classes but you still occasionally see cars that could easily be put together for less than 10K and it gives those racers an opportunity to run for Divisional exposure and of course the coveted "Wally".

Cooter is correct as well, they normally don't have enough pit space or time to run another class like Super Street at all the National events, it's usually only restricted to one National event within each Division with features S/ST.

As the guys above said its because of it being an "entry level" class. In div 1 s/st has a pretty good car count at all events. I had heard rumor that NHRA was getting feelers out about having s/st, top dragster and top sportsman nat'l champs this upcoming yr. I haven't heard anything about it lately. I race s/g and s/c but I love the diversity of the cars in s/st. I think that the cost to run the avg s/st car is about inline as s/g. In fact alot of s/st cars are now older retired s/g cars

Keith, your not entry level haha but there are some 120 mph s/st cars.

Entry level, went out the window years ago.
I love S/ST HR, but there is no push over rookies in that class.
Other then possible me LOL.
Someday I hope to win one of them, been close a few times,
just didn't seal the deal.
There seems to be more and more S/G cars running S/St too.
As far as a National Championship goes, it take money.
IHRA has a National Champion. As for NHRA they need
a sponcor that is willing to put up with them to make it happen.

The way entery level got take out is i lobbied nhra for 3 years many years ago. It's done no more entery level so can we stop calling it that. The ones that keep calling it entery level please learn how to read the rule book.

The argument that pit space is the problem went out the window with the approval of TS/TD national champions this year. This is a slap in the face to Superstreet category
still not having a national Champion but adding TWO new classes.

Just my opinion, NHRA doesn't what another throttle stop class to confuse the "crowd". I think the .90 classes could be sent to 'Divisional only status' in a couple years. Why have any .90 cars at Nationals, now that they got fast bracket cars. (TS/TD) It won't matter to me, Lets Race!!! E
