Started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but you guessed it, it’s the train.
The outer main stud felt funny so upon removal it had a almost perfect aluminum spring stuck in all the threads. Not sure what caused the damage but my guess would be a “click” type torque wrench that was slow to click.
So it’s back to my dial type wrench.

I wonder if a stretch gage is available for studs?

Anyone have success stories using thread repair in an aluminum block?
