Default In Car Valve Spring Tester

My 1994 C/S Camaro is finally together and running. I saw the thread on in car valve spring tools and was looking for a good in car valve spring tester for the late model Camaro's. With the engine set back under the cowel, I don't think a conventional tool would work. What works in this application?

The LSM low profile one should work. You can check it out on their web site.

I have the moroso low profile tester and there is no room what so ever for the back 4 cylinders. I don't think the LSM unit will fit either. I have a 93 super stock firebird and it's not fun to check springs on the back 4. It's easier to pull the motor out and do your check...Luke

I don’t own one of those cars so I’m no expert. But there is a significant difference in the design between the LSM and Moroso units.
Won’t the LSM one with the short handle fit? Although in an SS motor it would be tough to pull enough pressure to check the seat pressure even if it fits its underneath the cowl with the short handle. I think a while back there was a thread where someone with one of those cars mentioned he had an LSM and made a custom offset handle for it or possibly broached the handle so he could apply torque to it with a ratchet and extension from outside the cowl area.
Check out the LSM one at;

I re- read your post and realized you were looking for a tester....not a remover. I don't know what on the car tester would work as there is very little room at the rear of the engine. I changed mine due to some broken dampners.....You can change a complete set in a couple hours tops with the KD tool......

Cam...you can easily remove the springs with that tester and check them with a bench tester. I have only used the Moroso on car spring tester in the past and it is not even close to being accurate. We used it as a way to look for very obvioulsy weak springs or maybe a broken inner on roller cam springs. I know the LSM stuff is very good but it's going to be very difficult to use something on the springs under the cowl of any late model LT-1 Stocker. I was doing a leakdown test on my engine and looking over the valvetrain one day and found I had broken a bunch of dampers. I think it was from a poor fit between the dampers and the ID type spring seats I had used.
