Re: RPM vs MPH
Pretty Hard to answer that general a question because every combo
varies. Our 340/318 Stocker even with Hyd. Lifters trap about 7200 to 7300 and have for last 30 years or so (Since Valve Spring Pres. rule was changed).

It is good information. My LT1 iron head in PS touches 6400 rpm at 105 mph best. Trying to figure best gear and tire for a 4100 lb car moving to Stock. Figure a long stroke Olds 455 would have 4.56s. Remember GTOs seem to like 4.33s 305 SBC Camaros guessing like 5.13s Depending on story 283s would go 7800rpm. Dan |

Re: RPM vs MPH
I would think you would want a 4.88 with that combo Dan.

Re: RPM vs MPH
At Pomona, I ran 110.66 in my Chevelle first time run Thursday. Tach indicated 7465 RPM at the end. 5.57 gears, Hoosier 9 inch radial slicks, it felt like the engine probably wouldn't go much higher. The formula there is something like 68 RPM per MPH. The real fast 283 cars with 6. 14's at 103-105 must be over 8000. Scary to think about.
