Default New Slicks what do you guys like?

ok not trying to start a brand war here, and this isn't a stock/superstock car. But i feel like you guys well no more whats best for a NA car than some of the other forms. anyway here's what i have a 650hp 427inch amc in a 69 amx that weighs 3180 on leaf springs with calvert springs, bars, and shocks 6000 stall transbreak 4.30 gear and 28x10.5 class limited. we have always just ran mt bias ply slicks before but its time for tires and we plan on running a heads up stock block NA series this year and i wonder if there isn't a quicker/better tire out there i've considered Hoosiers stiff wall slicks and mt pro radials and mt bracket radials and just going back to the same old mt slicks. whats your suggestions?

Sears? My AMC wouldn't know if it had snow tires on it.

I think you should try a set of radials, they will be quicker than a bias tire. I have been using Hoosier and been happy overall. Hardest part is learning that you only need moderate burnouts.

I've never been one for giant burnouts pretty much set the line lock put it in 2nd wack the throttle shift to third and drive out is about all i normally do. i've heard hoosiers work good and are lite weight but have a fairly short life any truth to this?

Define short. My guess would be around 100 passes doing the burnouts as you described.

I have ran all brands over the years, not loyal to any, as I pay for them...
The true 9" radials work good on a well set up suspension - good stock eliminator type suspension. They are not as forgiving as a bias tire, but are faster. T-brake makes it that much more important to have good setup.

The normal radials do not last as long as a bias tire. Some brands also offer a light weight radial, they are fast, but do not last. Light weight because they do not have as much rubber to start with. Made for class - heads up runs. And light burnout is important with all radials. Radials also do not recover as well as bias if they start to spin.

I bought a set of the MT pro bracket radials last year. Limited passes due to hurting a motor, but they impressed me in the TX heat bracket racing before I hurt it. Read lot of reviews on line and talked to a couple of people that I know that had them before I bought a set... looking forward to putting more passes on them this year, and hope they continue to work as well, and last as long as I have been told they will.
They do have a 28x10.5 in the pro bracket radials also.
Good luck
Ken

thanks guy's

i went ahead and ordered some 28x10.5 pro bracket radials today. can't wait to try them. this car has good suspension, and like someone said above its just a amc it won't make enough power to spin them anyway.

Hope they work out good for you. Give us an update after you run them some, let us know how you like them. Did they speed you up vs. old tires, etc.

Good luck

Good decision. My nephew has been running them for 2 seasons now on his 10 second 1980 Spirit. He really likes them. Faster than bias, they last like regular slicks & don't give up their bite when wear marks are gone.

Good Luck!
