Default Re: 305 Canadian block ?

I find the ebay ad an odd listing.

"Block is bored, honed, decked, finished, ready to go, just needs main caps!"

Yea, Joe and Larry just where is that block ready to go.
Maybe back to a shop for some main caps or to the scrap heap??

After looking & looking at that picture on E-bay I think the picture is a 350 block

Just clean up the three center main caps you have laying about and bolt it together, no problemo.

And at $150.00 a fantastic bargain. Makes it mighty handy not having to check anything.

But can anyone on here absolutely confirm that Chevy sold 305 4 bolt main blocks in passenger cars or trucks ... Have yet to see one.

Smile Re: 305 Canadian block ?

The 305 Canadian block I have in Sharons car has a thicker main webbing than the other two bolt blocks that I have seen. Also the block is about .20 to .30 thicker in the cylinder areas that other blocks. All the GM guys I used to work with that poured them said they were made thicker due to the colder conditions up north. This also applied to the 350 blocks too. Most of them that I checked always had one or so cylinders out of whack that had some core shift, but they were all thicker than a reg block.

Not to go off topic but there was a thread back in 2007 about using a sleeved 350 block for a 305. Does anyone have any updates on whether you can run a 4 bolt main 350 block thats sleeved? Chances are I'll just fill my 305, just curious though.

I don't know about those Canadian blocks. They might sound funny,eh ?

I went to buy a flooded generator at a business, that a natural gas 5.0 GM engine, because they supposedly were 4 bolt blocks. It was gone by time I got there, so I didn't get to find out if it was true or not.

Talking Re: 305 Canadian block ?

Hey KWIG....
To the best of my knowledge those blocks you speak of are the same as the other 305 's except they came with a bottle of Crown Royal and were bathed in maple syrup...to prevent rusting
But not many survived it into race applications because they came encased in a huge block of ice shaped like an igloo
I 'll check with my operatives in the Royal Canadian mounted police to verify!!

Greg, you're right we kept it a secret until you've just let the cat out of the bag.Ok, here we go, all 305 truck engine in 3/4 ton and 1 ton 4x4 application had the four bolts main, all 1/2 ton had the automotive 2 bolt main but due to sometimes delivery problem from the foundry the auto version was install in 3/4 and 1 ton. This confirmation from my neighbor who was a GM tech in charge of formation for their technicians.U.S. Canada and Mexico.cr

Sorry Mr. Cicero....guess I had too much Tim Horton's coffee this morning, watching the beavers and moose meandering about the forest on my way to the outhouse
Can you still buy those secretive 305's with a few loonies and 2 nies @ Canadian Tire???
