Spring of 1969.
Wiley Cossey

Wiley won the SS/B Class at Indy 1968.

This is not the photo of Wiley Cossey versus Shirley Shahan (October 12, 1968 Match Race)

Paul C, I think you're right about that primered 68 Hemi Barracuda in the other Sox & Martin shop photo being the ex-Don Carlton "Lil Thumper"...I also confirmed the decals located on the drivers side vent window with some other older pictures of it.

Notice the 68 Hemi Barracuda in the middle of the shop, that is the ex-Dave Wren B029 Hemi Barracuda, he must have had a couple of different paint jobs on it before he sold it.

So how many B029 1968 Hemi Barracuda's did Sox & Martin own back then, or buy off other racers and just resell them to other customers.

HM,

Besides the Sox & Martin '2' original factory BO29 cars.

They purchased;
Don Carelton's,,,, SS/B car,,,,, (North Carolina)
Wiley Cossey's,,,, SS/B car,,,,, (California)
Dave Wren's,,,,,,,, SS/BA car,,,,(Montana)
Dean Nicopolis,,,,,SS/BA car,,,,(Michigan)
Billy Stepp's,,,,,,,,,,SS/B car,,,,,,,(Ohio)

The Billy Stepp car was Stepp's 2nd car. The one he purchased from
Billy Vanwey (Dayton, Ohio) in late-1968.

That's pretty interesting. Looking back, when I'd hear of local racer buying "Sox & Martin's Cuda" it probably wasn't the car I thought it was. Do you know what kind of time span was involved? Within a year, two years, five?

Did all of these cars get the full S&M treatment or were they simply passed along?

Dan,

Most of the other BO29 Hemi Barracuda's were purchased in
1969 by Sox & Martin.
Dean Nicopolis SS/BA car was featured in the December 1969
Speed and Supecar Magazine (photo session from September 69'),
when Dean had it. I think Sox & Martin got it in February 1970.

On selling prepared cars,
I think the deal was, they put the car together, and guaranteed it would run 10.50's.

They would deliver the car to your local drag strip of choice, then
Ronnie Sox would take it down the track with a 10.50 guarantee.
After that, hand over $10,000, and it was all yours.
All the cars had variations red/white/blue paint scheme.
