Wrapping a super stocker

Is it legal to completely wrap a NHRA super stocker? I don't have a 2012 rule book, but the 2009 says that the extent of customizing is limited to paint only. I want to wrap the entire car and want to clarify this first. Thanks in advance.

Don't think you can do the windows. Chris (Drooze) checked when we did our car, and although I wish I could ask him about it, it seemed to me it was the same as SS and we were told just because it doesnt say you can't, doesnt mean you can. Body is not glass.

But it ws a couple of years ago, so who knows if I remember accurately or not. Call your local Divisional Tech and see what they can tell you.

I didn't want to do the glass anyway, just the body.

David Rampy's car is wrapped red with the Ray Skillman logo, and last year was a wrap with the Racers Edge sponsorship.

Hillarey the 2012 book still says the same thing. Maybe its one of those grey areas.

I think Mark Faul's car is wraped too.

Russ Campbell's Missouri Mule SS/AH Cuda and Jim Pancake's Dart are both wrapped. I don;t see why it would be a problem

Yep. Never been an issue. Just doesn't look as good as paint :-(

A buddy in Indiana had his bracket Duster wraped in a AirForce style wrap
(he is a officer in the AirForce) and it ran him about $2400.

Philip, you could start your own race car wrapping company and call it....ready for this....Saran Wrap. :)

Hillary,

My D/SA is completely wrapped. Like Mark said, not an issue, just doesn't look quite as good as paint.

I swear I typed out the same thing (without the punch line... figured people would get it), but didn't post it. LOL

That is funny. Pure marketing genius.

As for "It doesn't look as good as paint." it depends on the design and the materials and application.

The Mega Maniac was totally wrapped and took Best Appearing Car at Mopar Nationals it's first year there.

Durability is surprisingly good, in my opinion. We got a few nicks on some black areas on bumpers, revealing the white paint underneath, and it covered easily with a small piece of black electrical tape.

Cost compared to a quality paint job is much lower. And you have the flexibility of changing it easily if you choose to do so.

Gator Wrap worked with us on the design, and then arranged for the installation 2000 miles away from them. It worked well for us.

A quality paint job is indeed a beautiful thing. We had an estimate of over $6000 for what we wanted. The wrap was about a third of that. And you can put money into the paint, or into making the car go faster...

It is a matter of choice. Either way, at the end of the day, you will probably be happy.

If only I did own the company, then I could afford to get my car wrapped too.
Oh woe it is to be the poor child.

Does anyone know what the weight difference would be between a good paint job and a wrap? It seems like the wrap might be a little more.

You are probably right, but some of the cars that I have seen wrapped I felt the wrap actually helped hold the car together.
