I'll say it....the track f'n blew on Sunday. Just like it does at this race every year when the sun comes out. The worst part about it is that the starting line crew just stand there as car after car blows the tires away. You ask a D1 official about the lack of track prep and they say it's Raceway Park responsibility and you ask a Raceway park employee and they say it's up to the D1 officials to do something about it. What a joke !!

Jack,

Clovis, NM checking in. Not at a car show here. Played at a music festival. Took off my racers hat and put on the musician's hat. We (Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs) only play about five or six dates a year and unfortunately, this event was scheduled on the E-town weekend.

Weather here is beautiful. We make the long trek home tomorrow. Not easy getting to Clovis. Two air planes and a 100 mile drive from Lubbock, TX.

If there is by chance a rain date, keep us posted. That would be good for me as it gives me another race to do besides the two at Atco coming up.

Two members in the band used to drag race back in the early to mid 1960's. Jimmy Gilmer had a car called "Record Maker" playing on the car being fast and the fact that he was a recording artist with one major hit, "Sugar Shack", biggest selling record of 1963 and numerious top ten records. Jimmy was based in Amarillo, TX at the time.

If you liked the music of 40 to 50 years ago, this is a great placed to be. I think Ricky Nelson's kids on on the bill for tonight. Our concert last night was great. We also played today at a work shop for the school system.

Jerry

C'mon Jerry,

You are being very modest about that song-it was recorded in Clovis at Norman Petty's studio where the great Buddy Holly made quite a few of his hits. Petty also recorded Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, and Carolyn Hester there.

Sal and Rich,

Those of us that are Red Sox fans even like Jeter-he plays all out, as exemplified by that catch he made running into the seats a few years back in the 12th or 13th innings. Plus he is a first class act, unlike the guy who plays 3B for the Yankees.

The track was better when Eddie was manager. After he went pro (PSM) it has been back to slip and slide.

Eddie would be out there spraying bald spots with his bug sprayer to give racers the best track possible on any given Sunday. He would also mix traction compound before spraying to give the dead hook we were looking for. Cars that needed to turn the tire did suffer with his good work though. Pro, Alcohol and Comp cars are looking for wheel speed down low.

Don't know whether it is what is being sprayed, how much or how little is applied or how it is applied, but the track generally s***s in the summer. As soon as the sun looses its power the track tightens up and here we go. But you have to get to that point in the eliminator to risk breaking out.

Atco will give us a great track and you fellas will be on the bumper!

I don't know who's responsibility it is, but I can certainly attest to the fact that the track was a complete joke for round two of stock. My car has - literally - not spun in YEARS. It just doesn't happen. I blew the tires off so bad I thought I broke something. Never moved an inch, as if I was on ice. I totally stopped at about the 100 foot mark, loaded the converter and jammed the gas. Front tires off the ground and drove down the track. I really thought I might have broken an axle or broke a rear, but there wasn't a damn thing wrong other than a piss poor starting line.

I like Bob Lang and Dave Mohn alot, and Englishtown is a great facility. I can live with one time run. We all understand the weather deal. But for $170 to enter, we deserve a lot better than that.

Of course it is after the fact, but I would contact RP and explain this to them. I know most of the guys over there and I believe they will actually care if they get input about piss-poor track conditions.

I would contact Mike or Alex Napp.

We shouldn't have to do this. Anyone who watched the session saw what was going on. You can't tell me the people in the tower didn't take notice.
