I remember those being called "low profile alluminum intakes"

Correct,,,,,,,,,,the #3963569 Low-Riser was the factory intake,
which nobody used in Super Stock for 1970.

but, many racers in 1970, used the 1969 #3933163
Aluminum Dual-Plane High-Riser, which was standard on
the 1969 396/375HP and 427/425HP engines,,,,,,

or an after-market
(ie; Edelbrock or Weiand or Offenhauser) Aluminum Dual-Plane High-riser.

The 396 and 427 intakes were later legal for A/SA as Kenny Koonce used one on his 1970 Chevelle LS-6 car in stock.

Edelbrock Model #C427
Used for the 1970 LS-6 454 cars in Super Stock

Later, the new version Edelbrock Model #C427X,
which I think came out in 1971.

Both manifolds designed for 'rectangular-port' cylinder heads,
and carburetor mounting base for the Model #4150 800 CFM Holley.

Mike,

Don Grotheer did not run a SS/E Hemi Plymouth Superbird,,,

He did run a 1969 1/2 (440 6-barrel) Road Runner, 4-speed in SS/G.
