Exactly right. 2004, I raced at the 50th Indy. I stopped by the concession stand to pick up two small fries to go with the burgers we were cooking on the grill. Three bucks apeice. A hamburger was five dollars. A small pop was three dollars. So:

Burger $5, small fry $3, small drink $3, $11 per person, or $44 for lunch for a family of four. Assuming the (food) prices are still the same nine years later, admission plus lunch is close to two hundred bucks for a family of four (depending on how old the kids are). I know ticket prices vary by age, and by day of the event. But a family of four, for four days, how much are they going to have to spend? Plus gas/tolls to get there, motel, etc etc.

I can only speak as a fan since I don't race. My father started taking me to e-town in 1985 and think I have only missed maybe 3-4 since. E-town is like a second home and my happy place every year. I have expanded to 3 days now so I can see more sportsmen racing. This year I had a buddy with me who is a passing tv race fan. First 53 bucks isn't too bad for the full day, yes it is high but a movie is 10-12 bucks. The problem is nhra isn't using the power they have to drive people to the track. Tv coverage should be used to get people to the live show. My friend didn't realize there where so many classes and it was fun*explaining all the classes and differences between them all. I actually enjoyed the 11.50 class it was cool loved the big pontiac. We as drag racing fans have to get out and invite new people to the track make them see what it is all about.
