Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
Id rather watch one hour of the boys from the 405 than 3 hours of rich guys racing other rich guys.
And it seems on Monday prime time 2.3 MILLION do to! |
Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
If its my Right to pay taxes for upkeep and construction of the roads in my country why am i privledge to drive on them? No its my right to drive on them. NHRA is right on this issue too.
I never street raced. I'm chicken ***** enough I respect speed. Doesn't make me a wuss, just smart. |
Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
I'm like u; House of Darts, I look at alot of those races on you tube also, n wonder if NHRA gets their way here how long be they start hunting those guys down. Or is the difference that those guys don't show NHRA up in the ratings. SO members are paid to be on TV; while NHRA has to pay to be seen n still gets the shaft from ESPN. Does anybody know of another motorsport shown on TV that has to pay instead of being paid to be seen. These guys pack whatever tracks they go to when they make guest appearances; something NHRA hasn't been able to do for a long time. The gap between SOs' viewers n NHRAs' is getting bigger every year. Maybe it's time the executives at NHRA learned something instead of trying to run the competition out of town.

Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
Restricting individuals from participating in a staged TV show about "street racing" could be the prelude to restricting people who race with other sanctioning bodies. This tv show is legal and really not nhra's business. I do understand them not wanting Nhra stickers on a car or maybe the nhra competition numbers but trying to restrict what individuals do by threats to suspend their racing privelige with Nhra seems rather stupid. I've been racing for more than 30 years and have seen the numbers of spectators and competitors steadily decline. The folks that run nhra don't have a clue. They are so dependent on two or three pro teams for their livelihood, that if anything happens to one or two of those teams the whole deal would fall apart. What they are doing to these folks is heavy handed and not in the best interests of the organization. It makes the management look clueless, something a lot of us already think they are.

Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
I'm thinking this is a great time to take advantage of this shows following by the local tracks.
match race these cars in a grudge format. take it one step farther and due a national list aka: 60's gasser wars. east verses west, north verses south. the cars and drivers have nick names. I think if they ran a show at englishtown I would go for the first time in many years on a regular sunday. JMHO Joey Dee Former Div.1 S/G champion |

Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
I happen to agree with NHRA on this particular instance, but their credibility stinks.
One of the lines that they post in their letter is that they don't want any detractions from the "family atmosphere" of the sport....yet they had no problem with Courtney Force posing in the buff for ESPN the magazine (yeah, I know, it was to show off her position as a 'athlete') when we all know it was a deal to sell tickets and support the Force-Schumacher show. They need to become more "Dedicated to Safety" and less about "Championship Drag Racing". |
Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
Yes, NHRA is mismanaged at times
Yes, NHRA is losing its viewers Yes, NHRA seems to not care about its sportsman Yes, NHRA missed the boat on a TV show about real guys and their real cars and their real battles every year to make the list. Its called sportsman racing, And there are plenty of more entertaining people to watch in Div 4 alone Yes, NHRA likes money.... But, NHRA cannot be associated with anybody who promotes street racing. Fake or Real, doesn't matter. NHRA doesn't care about a youtube video with 5k views. They care about a group of people, who NHRA is associated with, actively promoting an idea that is directly contrary to NHRA's very existence. Would you want an American citizen to keep his Citizenship if he went to fight for ISIS? An extreme example, but on the exact same lines. This is the first time NHRA has done this, and its only because its directly contrary to their mission. I cannot see this going any further into DUI's and other arrest, unless you get on National TV clearly representing affiliation with NHRA and promoting drunk driving. |
Re: NHRA regulates off track behavior.........
I can see both sides. If it discourages dumb-azzes from actually street racing, I'm with NHRA. Did I street race when I was a kid? Sure did. Had a 14 second '56 Chevy (wasn't an old car then <G>) not an 8 second car. I have seen enough of them get loose and tear stuff up, I have to wonder why they don't just go to the NHRA track at Noble for test & tune nights. Wouldn't seem all "outlaw" to them, I guess. Jeanie and I do enjoy watching them, and they really do have fast cars.
