Re: Stick shift drivers by division
Ed,
It would great to work this out. We as stick racers are a minority. But I believe that given the right venue, we could make this work. Maybe we start slow by doing a S/SS Stick shootouts at Div races to spark interest? To find a location that is for everyone probably will not work just because of logistics but as they said about a spot in a corn field in Iowa "if you build it they will come". I believe that is the same for racers just not in the numbers we would like but we need to start somwhere. Dirk |

Also all the clutchless trans I have ever seen have to have rod from shifter for every gear,4 speed has 4 rods plus reverse 5 has 5 rods plus reverse. |

Like Mike said, it won't catch again on the ramps of the previous gear. Been checked at Indy that way, years ago, right at the scales. |
Re: Stick shift drivers by division
Ed,
It would be interesting to see how many ACTIVE stick racers there are per division and per races completed in a season. This could be by divisional as not everyone competes at the national level. There seems to be a fair share of stick cars in S/SS at most D5 races that I have attended. How does that stack up with other divisions? Car count vs % of stick cars competing would be cool. As for a stick car race, if you are the guy putting forth the effort I would say put it in your backyard and screw anyone that does not understand why it needs to be somewhere else. You cannot and will not please everyone. I would not be a very good promoter!! Those of us in the area I believe would support you if you chose to persue having something. Thanks again Ed Sean To not derail this thread any further. I believe Mike Tailors post on shifting without a clutch nailed it, the T5 I had was not faceplated but every other syncro was removed. I never hurt the internal rail or shift forks. How light the base pressure is makes a difference between clutched vs clutchless shifting and CW will be different as well. |
Re: Stick shift drivers by division

I'm Marcus Allen and my car is the SS/D 69 camaro out of Colorado. I have spoken to racers in the past and nhra about doing something like this. My plan was to do it after the western swing at Kearney, Ne. I choose this location due to speaking with Hyatt Racing about stopping there on their way to Brainerd, Mn. My brother Frank and I found about 50 different S/SS racers just in the surrounding states that could attend. At the time the track manager wasn't willing to risk that type of race but has since changed his mind set when we started to bring 20 cars from CO to the track to hold a stick race. Every so often I think about doing something like this but don't see it working, because of a lack of racer interest. You have a list and my two cents is pick a divisional near those who respond back to a message sent to those racers. Have the race after the first time shot Sat with NHRA approval. If they (NHRA) don't think that's fair because of these racers having a competition before everyone else, then try Earlville, IA (if they have another national open in 2016) with the midwest class racers. The folks at midwest class racers were interested in it when Frank brought it to them and at a national open their is plenty of time. My original spot was Topeka, Ks because it was centrally located in the US. But reality is find the most dense populated reference a response to s letter and since your doing the work find a track between them and you. Don't give up and good luck. P.S. payout is only an incentive to a few of the stick racers. Those who truly love stick cars will make the trip if told this is a one time deal. I traveled to Indy 1100 miles one way for a stick race put on by umtr one year. |
