Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
Nobody said Mike was an authority on Sox & Martin but he is very knowledgeable about them. He is the authority on AWB Mopars.
Did you ever see the car in person before it was restored? It may or may not have been in an alley but it was left outside for a long time... I may have missed the point, you are correct about that because I still don't know what it was.... I'm done debating Mike Guffey and taking up space in this thread about if a car was found in an alley or not. |

Knew Buckeye and Vernon bought both the hardtop and sedan.
Just wondering what this one was. Maybe just tryin' to be a look-a-like Sox and Martin car. Lots of similarites to the real one if you look. |

Really wish this would quit before the moderator locks this otherwise great thread.
There are probably more stories about these cars than there are cars themselves. From this to the Funny car team of today, TASCA Ford has been around for a long time in the sport. http://georgeklass.net/uploads/3/2/2...47382_orig.jpg |

In the beginning.......the Pontiacs:

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
Just glad these cars still exist no matter the fact or fiction about how they survived.

My favorite AFX car ever and was just about unbeatable on gas. Phil Bonner has told me this car was crushed when he turned it in for his longnose Mustang. Ford didn't want the liability of anyone else possibly getting hurt in it. |

Love to see the look on John Force's face after he did a full on run in this.....if he had the ####'s to even do it!
The guys(and gals) that drove this stuff back in the day didn't need drugs to get a "buzz". Cannot imagine what that was like! http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...perMustang.jpg |

While we are talking Comets, no way I'm going to leave out one of the best from days gone by.....who spent most of his life here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

It was always my understanding that the "Paper Tiger" was destroyed in a crash sometime in the late sixties. |

This car was destroyed in a starting line accident at Quaker City in the early 80's. Whoever owned the car at the time lost it in the burnout box and rear ended the former Hine Motors "Chargin Hemi" '69 Charger, which was then owned by Ben Bertok. It's my understanding that the Charger was repaired and put back on the street. The Belvedere on the other hand was quite fragile at this point and pretty much folded up on impact. |
Re: The Factory Experimental Cars
Steve, the car ran quite often at old Keystone Raceway, and several times at PID I saw it. It may well have been owned by Koffel, but I know that Deuker had made several modifications to it. He told me that he had built the car.
I was not aware of it's accident at Quaker.....but it doesn't surprise me. The car scared me to death. |
