As I stated before Mike has been involved with everyone of these existing cars. Mike is honest and doesn't put up with much nonsense, ask anyone who knows him. I'm not shocked that he hung up on you to be honest....

Sounds like you have some sort of an axe to grind with him and I'm not sure why. If you know somebody that had the car before Mike and they want a pat on the back then ok but whoever had it left it get into terrible shape and did nothing with it. At least Mike got it to Todd eventually.

I think calling Mike a hero is a stretch but he does deserve credit for finding these pieces of history and preserving them or getting them to folks that will preserve them.

I think you are missing the point and you are right it dose not mater so why not tell the real story I bought the car in Detorit not it was left in an ally for umpteen years ,come on do really believe that so if I said Dick Landy farted in my car would everyone think I was an authority on Dick Landy

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars

Nobody said Mike was an authority on Sox & Martin but he is very knowledgeable about them. He is the authority on AWB Mopars.

Did you ever see the car in person before it was restored? It may or may not have been in an alley but it was left outside for a long time...

I may have missed the point, you are correct about that because I still don't know what it was....

I'm done debating Mike Guffey and taking up space in this thread about if a car was found in an alley or not.

No, I don't think so. The hardtop went from S&M to Buckeye & Vernon and that was it. I don't recognize this car.

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars

Knew Buckeye and Vernon bought both the hardtop and sedan.
Just wondering what this one was. Maybe just tryin' to be a look-a-like Sox and Martin car.
Lots of similarites to the real one if you look.

So what are you trying to say mr belvedere that mike guffey didnt find the car someone else found it and saved it from being scrapped so mike guffey could find it in a barn years later and take all the credit for saving it from the crusher that sounds a little far fetched to me sounds like theres a conspiracy maybe you can tell us who killed kennedy next.

Really wish this would quit before the moderator locks this otherwise great thread.

There are probably more stories about these cars than there are cars themselves.

From this to the Funny car team of today, TASCA Ford has been around for a long time in the sport.

Well the fact that that car was in a junkyard in middle belt in Detorit and was bought in 1974 by a guy named Mike Spinazla and another car was sitting in the same yard it was called firebrewed and he bought both cars ,so Spinazla saved them and he sold them to Rick Samul who held onto the car until 1985 and sold it, hey wasn't you and me who killed the Kennedy's

Right on it's about the cars not the personalities or lack there of.;)
My favorite AFX car ever and was just about unbeatable on gas. Phil Bonner has told me this car was crushed when he turned it in for his longnose Mustang. Ford didn't want the liability of anyone else possibly getting hurt in it.

Love to see the look on John Force's face after he did a full on run in this.....if he had the ####'s to even do it!

The guys(and gals) that drove this stuff back in the day didn't need drugs to get a "buzz". Cannot imagine what that was like!

That isn't a scoop, more of a lump. This photo doesn't show it very clearly. That's Bob Tasca II in the passenger seat by the way. I showed him the photo and he remembered being in the car as a child.

Jody is right. This car raced at old Keystone Raceway, Pittsburgh Raceway Park; and it WAS NOT the S&M Paper Tiger; or Buckeye & Vernon. This was a home brew from the Pittsburgh area....I remember it well.

It was always my understanding that the "Paper Tiger" was destroyed in a crash sometime in the late sixties.

This car was not from the Pittsburgh area, and wasn't a typical "home brew." This is/was the former Dave Koffel/Maloney Motors car. Richard Duecker (Chippewa Lake, Ohio) bought it and ran it for a number of years.

This car was destroyed in a starting line accident at Quaker City in the early 80's. Whoever owned the car at the time lost it in the burnout box and rear ended the former Hine Motors "Chargin Hemi" '69 Charger, which was then owned by Ben Bertok. It's my understanding that the Charger was repaired and put back on the street. The Belvedere on the other hand was quite fragile at this point and pretty much folded up on impact.

Steve1118 03-11-2014 01:57 PM

Re: The Factory Experimental Cars

Steve, the car ran quite often at old Keystone Raceway, and several times at PID I saw it. It may well have been owned by Koffel, but I know that Deuker had made several modifications to it. He told me that he had built the car.

I was not aware of it's accident at Quaker.....but it doesn't surprise me. The car scared me to death.
