Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
The car in that old picture was run with a BB Chevy and a automatic trans as a bracket racer. Ran S/G, but being that you are from Ottawa you know who owned it at that time ...

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
If you like pictures of old modified corvettes, dig up a issue of the Nov. 26 1976 National dragster. It had a big story on ol Corvette racecars, and had many pictures of the famous ones from that era.

Heres an early shot of Johns car. I have raced with/against John and his brothers Joe & Carl for decades. They are a great racing family and are well known and well respected around here (Cincinnati, Ohio). Joe ran Performance Motorsports and Machine which is now Joe Leach Racing Engines down on Galbraith Road in Cincinnati. Give Joe a call, I'm sure he would be glad to talk with you about their Vette.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
Gus told me that his Corvette went to some big time coal dude on the right coast. That was a long time ago and I might be a little fuzzy on the details. But, it was one bitch'n Vette.

Brinkman's Corvette has been shown earlier (pages 10 and 30).
If you don't mind I'd like to post a few shots of his car from this past season. The photo near the starting line is from Maple Grove Raceway on May 22, 2015. The photo at the 400 foot mark is from Cecil County on August 15, 2015. |

I purchased this car a couple weeks ago from longtime division 3 track personnel Ron Mack, Ron has owned the car since 1969 and raced it in junior stock in the early 70's, he named the car Shotgun as a reply to his biggest rival in the class, Larry Lombardo. Ron later bracket raced the car & parked it around 1980. Of course the brakes were all stuck, fuel tank had rust in it & the radiator was rotted but the motor sounds great after not running for 35 years. Ron is a first class guy & I hope he can again make a pass in it this summer. I'll try and post updated photo's as I get it completed.........Thanks.........Doug Engels.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
Great car and look forward to the future pictures of it, you come up with some great finds, always liked that fawn color car with the big tires on the back.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes

Are you going to make it a stock or SS car? Either way, we know it will be a beauty (and fast). |
Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
Other than just making it functional again, I don't plan on changing much, it's just to cool to mess with. thanks........Doug

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes

Since this thread has resurfaced I thought I would post a couple pictures of the Shotgun car, after going through the car last winter & into spring, detailing the engine compartment, new carpet & seat covers etc. I took the car to the Thunder Valley reunion last summer and the Melt Down drags in Byron for a day, unfortunately Ron went in for emergency heart surgery at the same time & could not attend but we still had a good time making some laps in it. The other corvette pictured is the Georges Speed Shop modified production car out of Louisiana. was parked in the mid 80s and recently came out of storage. Thanks...........Doug
