:):):) Great video showing the good old days of drag racing. I still remember seeing the haulers, ramp trucks and open trailers sitting at various motels when the boys came to town. Somewhere I have a picture of Jerry Ruth's Pay 'n' Pak mustang funny car on a ramp truck at S.I.R. I believe it is 1971. I think Tommy Ivo did it the best, a showman always.
:(:( Like I have said before, I think drag racing lost something when enclosed trailers and semi's came into play. It was truly awesome to see all the various race cars on display while driving to each event, truly a road show. I total understand the need to secure the race cars and equipment at a race. Back in the day when you went to the pits, it was awesome to see hundreds of cars and haulers. Nowadays it looks more like a motorhome, RV, enclosed trailer sales lot.

I liked the video too. Passenger cars hauling race cars? Folks on this board insist that an F 150 isn't enough to haul a racer these days. So what, other than the need for security, changed?

Any one recall the preferred method of getting to the races in the 60s as "Car in Toe"? For the younger people, that's not misspelled.

I bought that van 14 years ago for $250. I put a crate motor in it with full length headers, bagged the rear suspension, rebuilt the steering and put a $300 paint job on it. I've used it to tow an open trailer for the last 10 years and I think I have about $2500 wrapped up in the whole thing over that 10 years.

Don't have any pictures of Allyn Armstrongs bus, but I do remember NHRA Today doing a piece on it!

Loved the video..
Boy, that era went away fast...or did it?

General rule of thumb was ..tow vehicle weighed as much as the race car and trailer.
Some of them were pushing that limit.
The dealer sponsored cars liked to provide a nice station wagon for the team. They got advertising that way too.
Later on , the independent operators figured out how to split the expenses with a one ton or bigger hauler, and a trailer behind it .
We did that , coast to coast, more than once!
(Towards the end of the video, see the California teams of Neja and Dissette towing the Barkley / Ripes car out of Englishtown , I believe)
