This thread is supposedly for OLD modified Corvettes. I have no idea if the Engels Corvette was ever M/P. But one of the coolest Super Stockers at the US Nationals this year.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
However you classify it, make class breaks, etc this would become the most popular area running for guys who want to be a winner for building the better car, motor, driving best. No More bogus winner, No more factored if you work hard. A place to start your racing for less money. It wont happen because of Politics of current set up.
No Sealed Motor, No crate motor, either. No Big Money pushing them in NHRA. |
Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
It would have to be a nostalgia class to manage costs (1980 rulebook?), otherwise, the guy with the most money would buy the best parts (everything aftermarket) and win. Look at the Super Modifieds in Comp. Its the closest thing to the evolution of MP.
Most people couldn`t care less. No dry hops, no big wheelstands, same RPM`s just not the same thing. Happy, Healthy New Year to all. Mike A114 |

All, I found a cool picture of Dick Moroso's car while looking at some old Jones mechanical Tach articles. Too bad HD camcorders weren't invented yet. I looked back at some of my posts on page 7 and 8 and redid the youtube links. I might dig up some more film this winter. Its good to see this thread still alive.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes

Check the smiling crowd watching Moroso's car. That's when drag racing was fun to watch and be involved in. Every car had it's own personality.

I don't know if Terry Sherrill was mentioned earlier in this thread, but he was so much fun to watch, I thought I would post a pic of his A/MP corvette.
It was a car that as a kid I ran to the starting line to watch. |

Am not certain if this car qualifies an "old modified Corvette" but the Engels Corvette now has the NHRA permanent number assigned to Angelo DeCarlo.

Schnelker & Losher G/gas Corvette from Fort Wayne Indiana, probably the best time capsule I've ever come across, was parked around 1973. Still retains the 287 & Doug Nash trans it was last raced with.

Well, looks are deceiving! Back then body modifications were as common as switching engines, whatever it took to take advantage of the rules.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
Looks like a 67 for sure......
i have owned 48 Corvettes and am pretty familiar with them including a 1966 427 Roadster and a 67 427 coupe back when they were new! |

Can you tell by my screen name I should know a 63 when I see it. First off no split window in the rear glass. 63 was the only year with a split window. Second the fender well has multi vent slots some call it a 5 slot. The 66 model fenders had a 3 slot. Other mid years have insets not slots. I have owned all of the mid year models over the years and currently have a 67 427 roadster. My favorite. I am no expert however, it is a1967 body shown no doubts.
