Although it does not say you can't do it, long standing Nhra policy is you have to get permission to do it first!!! So at some point did someone get permission to do it??? If so, there shouldn't be problem. If not ???

Bob,

I'm only speaking of the engines I know of. So take that into consideration when I tell you this.. But five different customers of the now closed up Gulius camp have went right through teardown with the heads in question. These teardowns started in 2018 and finished up in Rockingham N.C this year. Pictures were taken, and multiple officials tried their best to find a reason in the rulebook to disqualify them. Problem is, they fit the current rules. In fact, they fit the rules that have been in place for decades. Last year they implemented new tightening of the rule(s), in that the original bolt holes bolting the intake manifold to the cylinder head had to be maintained. That stopped the aggressiveness of the milling, as any more cutting, and the bolt hole would have been non-existent. But it did not stop the complaining. I hope this helps clear things up.

Thanks Jeff I can understand people objecting to what has progressed with the heads, but if what you say has happened, and Im sure it has, Nhra has basically condoned the modifcations to the heads. But Nhra proposes to better define the head rule which will impact all the existing heads that have already been done. Not fair at this point!! The +2/-2 angle and no spacers they proposed is a little late. Jeff -Not to put you in the crosshares, but what are your thoughts on a fix?? Thanks Bob

Bob, I thought they already had a fix.

Jeff I believe any changes have been put off till the end of 2020 to apply to 2021.

So the 100+ racers this affects, will just have to spend the same amount of money as if the rule wasn't rescinded? Some brilliant logic! SMH!

Well Sean, look at the bright side, back in the old days NHRA would have changed the rule and that would be it. At least you and the other 99 racers this will affect have a season to make the changes instead of trying to get something done by January or March!

It would be nice if they actually said that the changes would apply next year and gave racers one year to adapt. To me it reads that they just kicked the can down the road and left the door open to make another official announcement that will cause the same scramble a year from now.

The NHRA Technical Department is rescinding the Stock and Super Stock cylinder head rule changes shown below that were released in the 12/4/2019 version of the NHRA Amendments. The Stock and Super Stock cylinder head rules for 2020 will now revert back to the 2019 rules (also shown below). The Stock and Super Stock cylinder head rules will be reevaluated for the 2021 season.

Yes, I know. What I meant was a clarification would be made on intake spacers.

In 1989 at Indy I watched NHRA toss two or three BB Fords for cutting too far into the intake side of the heads in order to get the advantage that would give them. The valve cover screw holes were right next to the edge of the cut. They went out to a junk yard and bought a head and when they were laid side by side it was very obvious what was being done. My point here is this has been being done for a loooong time! Pretty sure this is when extrude honing was becoming popular. Jim

Billy, logic is the missing link with NHRA, and their mind numbing, decision making skills!

I do, I owned one. The Cleveland intake that it attaches to has runners that aren't nearly as long as the FE so the adapter has to make some fairly abrupt bends on the end cylinders. Fast guys were taking a Ford tunnelwedge 2-4bbl. intake and making a 1-4bbl.intake out of it like Holbrook, but $$. The Edelbrock Victor for the FE pretty much killed any thought of this adapter being used.
