Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
On my last trip to Indy, one thing that I notice that could help racer get more time trials, is that many racers take way too long to stage and race, even worse for the alcy cars.(cleaning of tires has to stop I won't even talk about the time that the pro's waste) I find that as soon as one pair leaves you should be starting your burnout and advancing to your staging for your pre-stage. Some of the racers take way too much time slowing down the race. Why is there so much down time between different classes? I'm not talking about preping the race track here, I'm talking just dead time between actually allowing the racer to start their burnout. If you come to race you should be prepare, same thing goes for the track officials in the tower!

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Hey Toby, Teuton tried that before he left to go back to Louisiana (with Tom Compton standing there) and got nowhere! I'm sure he would say it's his division and he will run it like he wants!
Yo Ken, thanks for the pics! This is what happens when you don't get to race til the evening: http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...div/fri005.jpg http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...div/fri007.jpg "Mopars on the Strip"??? |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
What can one say.....You guys keep going to those races. When will you learn?
Im sorry for the last part of my post....I was a little strong and may have offended some. I have deleted it. Besides.....Its your choice to race where you want. I still stand by the rest of the post. |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Well, the way it is now the super classes get to go out on the town earlier rather than waiting around to make their second run. And they get the honor of being the the first out for eliminations tomorrow morning.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Well they just announced that stock may run before Alcohol. So if you are racing, but aren't at the track, you might want to get here.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
It's raining.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
They got about 3/4 of Super Stock completed when it started to sprinkle. It's raining pretty hard right now. There is another front to the south of us heading heading north and it has a lot of yellow in it. It might miss us, but if it doesn't I would say we're done for the day. We might be done for the day anyway. I think it's probably too cold to get the track dried off.
They just pulled the plug on the day. -Toby |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
DRC is a bit lean on results for the day and I have been out of the loop all week. Did stock run today?
Thanks in advance........ |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
The rest of super stock and all of stock were in the lanes when the rain started. They pulled the plug on today and stock is first out in the morning. Then Super Stock gets their 2nd qualifier. The super stock cars that did not get down this afternoon lost their first run. Stock gets another qualifier in the morning, then we run 1st round late tomorrow, then super stock 1st round is after us. They announced everything but I didn't write it down, so I am not for sure on anything except we are supposed to go down at 8 in the morning. Tomorrow's weather is sunny and 58, but down to 40 tonight. I sure am glad that Mike Cotten saw the propane guy this morning and we all got filled up!
I got a few pics this afternoon, then some from the stands of super stock when they were running. Here goes: http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...gasdiv2001.jpg The Irving Compound http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...gasdiv2002.jpg Robbie Irving with Spanky and Frisky |

Patsy, I get the feeling you are about ready to get home and see those grand kids.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
:):):):) Good morning all. Patsy and Toby, thanks for all the pictures and reports. The 64 Chevelle SS/MA car is Brett Brown. That car was owned by Jim Gorman from Seattle many years ago. I remember seeing it on a trailer headed for the track and making many passes at local drag strips. A blast from the past for me. Anyway, good luck to all and hopefully better weather for the rest of the weekend.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Greg, you are right! We can't wait to get home to see Aubrey and Reagan! We are really thankful that Chris has kept everything going there at home so we could be out here playing. Also his wife Keisha has been helping out also. Thanks, guys!
Well 108 stockers went down this morning. It is only 49 degrees out there this morning. They have already called us back up for our 2nd and last qualifier. Then we run 1st round almost last tonight. I think super stock is after us. More later! |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Now we get to sit here all day and run in the dark tonight. Still lots of people playing the game to where they are at the bottom of the ladder. We ran pretty consistently. Robbie Irving broke something on the line, sprag maybe. Markkanen had problems at the beginning, too. First run Cannen got way high and hit pretty hard when he came down. Lee Zane is running Mark Faul's car and had some problems on the line, too. Santangelto is running Bertozzi's car. I will try to get some pics later on today. More later.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Well I know one reason why there are not too many spectators watching stock when they run early in the morning here in Las Vegas. This morning they would not let spectators into the track until 9:30. There was a family who had driven here to watch stock and super stock only and by the time they let them in, stock had made both of their runs for today and so had super stock. Evidently Division 7 or this race track in particular just doesn't care! They also changed the order that we were running from the time it was announced and changed it to where stock almost ran back to back with only super stock in between. If you run both stock and super stock, it was really a busy hour and a half, and then nothing til last thing tonight.
Well I am about ready for a nap, so I can stay up long enough to race tonight. |

We arrived in Houma last night about 7. Glad to be home. And we made the 1750 miles before Stock made down the track.

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Well after 3 changes in the ladder we still have Jody Lang first round. On the final change, Jeff Interlacchia was DQ'd after attempting to set a record today. I haven't heard why he was DQ'd. Keith Lynch set the A/SA record. His first pass was 10.23 and second was 10.02 without the altitude adjustment. I guess it will be the 10.23 since the 10.02 wasn't within 1%. They have cancelled comps 1st round for tonight, but we are still to race after top dragster and top sportsman. The track is very cold and the alcohol cars and nitro harleys were having a difficult time getting down. Right now they are prepping the track, so we'll see how many they crash before they quit for the evening.
|
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
OPPPPS....
No record for Spike......needs to be within 1% (.1 of a second) either way... Too quick to back it up is as bad as too slow.... Take the day off from pulling it apart and enjoy Vegas.... Have fun, Bob |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Well the top dragsters are 0 for 4 trying to get down the track. Cotten just went up to watch the crash when it happens.
|
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
The question is........................how many will be sacrificed?

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
well i got done watching rd 1 of stock, and just said ok, lots of spin cycle out there then again you see wheels up runs, Larry, I'll bet you seen your time slip and just said "Come on Man", tough lost there, i'll bet others said the samething. Anyhow time to sit and watch SS, You always know when the end of the round comes when you see orange colored cars, lol I'll bet Harold in the lanes keeps on saying " Come on Man" also

Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Well we broke out by .001 to Jody.
Kentucky here we come!! |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Its been great following along. Have a safe trip home.
|
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
They must have set up the track for top fuel, last car down track was a top fuel car testing 3.91 1000 ft. Tom
|
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Well they sent the Top Sportsmen cars back, then ran Stock and Super Stock. I guess the track was unsafe for them, but fine for stock and superstock.
I heard that the reason they DQ'd Interlacchia was that he refused to tear down for the record. Wouldn't that be a year off? or are west coast rules different? |
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
Can some one tell me what the 1/8 index's for stock are. I would like to know what J/SA and K/SA are. Thanks for all the help.
|
Re: "Live" from our Southwestern Swing
J/SA - 1/8 mile index = 7.94 sea level @ LV = 8.08
K/SA - 1/8 mile index = 8.05 sea level @ LV = 8.19 |
