Re: Original hemi dart information
Well, Tim Banning (For Hemis Only) finally has my engine ready to go... almost. On the dyno today, in fact. Can't wait to see the numbers.
Now the problem- he cannot seem to be able to scrounge up any of the old chromed-steel valve covers that I would like, for a old-school look. The ones with the orange super stock stickers on them. Does anybody here have a set that they would sell, or know a vendor where I can purchase some? |

Hey Clint Good to hear. Can you post a link if Tim does a video of it?? Interested in seeing some numbers on it also. As far as valve covers go. The chrome covers that had the Super Stock Decals on them were actually 1964-65 covers that were used exclusively with the K Head. The 68 Super Stock Hemi's used the same covers as the Street Hemi's that were finished in a wrinkle Black paint. This is assuming you are looking for a OEM look If you want the chrome, just order up a set of repops for the 1966-1971 Street Hemi style, then add a set of repop decals. These are an old set of original Nascar covers that have been "finessed" some to fit my application. If you look at the valve gear clearance humps, these are actually factory stamped. Very rare and hard to find. liteweight https://image.ibb.co/kb4fJk/20170515_201220.jpg https://image.ibb.co/m5Taik/20170430_112031.jpg https://image.ibb.co/fyZgOk/20170430_112200.jpg |
Re: Original hemi dart information
Does anyone here recognize or remember this car. Ed Miller had an original LO23 that he converted into a Scamp to run Pro Stock for a very brief period, and I'm wondering if this could be it..
If you look closely I think it has black plastic buttons on the door handles which signifies they could be a set of 68 lightweight doors on it. liteweight https://image.ibb.co/b2rEJw/22090038...27984269_n.jpg https://image.ibb.co/bPK6kb/ed_mille...rned_scamp.jpg |

That was very helpful, thank you. I may just go with the black wrinkle finish, then. My car came with the chrome ones with the super stock decals, which I thought looked cool, but I guess I knew that it wasn't "correct". Not that my engine is going to fool anybody into thinking it is OEM correct. Jim Keyes also gave me a set of cool old aluminum covers that have the black plates/provisions for running dual plugs, and they look kinda cool, but not what I'm after. Yours look terrific. I will post a video when I get one! I will try to attach a photo of it now... |

You may have trouble fitting stocker valve covers that clear the valve train without some modifying due spring diameter & installed height, etc. Thats whyI looked for a set of these factory stamped Nascar ones. Lots of people clearance by ballpeen but that wasn't the look I wanted with mine. I see a can of Q16gas. Thats a very serious swirl of fuel!!!!!!! I'm seeing a vacuum pump, and a bunch of other very serious go fast stuff on that thing. What kind of intake is that? A Mopar Performance?? Stock Carbs? Whats the jetting? I'm seeing 73 written in felt pen. liteweight |

Thank you! No worries, Tim is making a spacer/adapter for the valve covers, and if he can't make that work, I've grown rather fond of the black wrinkle aluminum ones shows in the photo anyway. But thanks for mentioning that potential issue. The intake is an extensively modified MP piece. Lots of time in porting. Can't C&C that thing, unfortunately, but Tim really knows how to make the power, and he did that all by hand of course. I could sure make even more power with a sheet metal intake, but I really thought my car deserved at least a "pseudo factory" appearance, lol. Carbs are Holley 770s but again, modified a good bit by Tim. Jetting is still being experimented with. I should have some final data in the next week or so. Yeah, probably a good thing my shop is installing some wheelie bars... :-) |

Witch was a bit unusual, since car is running in class A, indicating picture may be taken in 1970 or later, when exhaust pipes no longer was mandatory by NHRA.
Pic below probably from 1969, when Tanner still raced for Atlanta Dodge dealer Billy Aiken of Lennox Dodge. Aiken signed Tanner in December of ยด68 and the following year Tanner became NHRA Southeastern Champion. All according to Car Magazine Article of May 1970. |
