I notice the '69 marker lights, plastic windows, shaved door handles, spindle mount wheels....but still has rear leafs. Seems like not originally a LO. It's at Atco, Nhra sanctioning, but appears no class markings on either car. Looks too early for p/s but also the wrong equipment for an m/p car. I've seen pictures of Chick's Charger that was more funny car/ match racer from around then but was curious if anyone knows the story on this Dart. |

Re: Original hemi dart information
Here is an awesome pic I found of Ruel Nichol in the Denny's Dart.
Ruel told me over a telephone once that he had this car sent by rail to a local rail yard where he picked it up and drove it home roughly 20 miles. This when it was brand new!!!! Notice the door mirror and differences through the sequence of pics https://image.ibb.co/hyDw0m/21576658...48178176_n.jpg https://image.ibb.co/faJzmR/21479927...97866496_n.jpg https://image.ibb.co/jaAZLm/21479791...32543488_n.jpg https://image.ibb.co/eBjN6R/21688546...59914496_n.jpg liteweight |

Re: Original hemi dart information
IHRA had 4 Super Stock classes at one time. Formula1 1 was 2 4 bbls. Formula 2 was 1 4 bbl. Formula 3 was 1 2 bbl and Formula 4 was factory intake and carb. A few Hemi guys ran Formula 2 with a "bathtub" intake and a dominator.

Thankyou for the conversion to English on that phrase SSSwede. Always wondered what that meant. very cool!!!. Love it!!!!. This car would of been really cool to see in person with the colors and details it had. Really too bad it was scrapped after being rolled. Today the damage it sustained, it would of been repaired. liteweight |

Yes, don´t even try... It´s a Hemi :) One wonders if Castaldo had any connection to Germany? Charlie C was big in the Crane Business. Apparently he had eleven of them, $250.000 per unit!! Maybe those were German made, they have always made some good stuff... BTW is Mr. Castaldo sill with us? |

The phone number in the ad in post 4903 was Sammy Carrolls business phone number (Carroll and Bradshaw Body Shop) I don't know how I can remember that from that long ago.

Yes the Speedwin Dart was absolutely beautiful. Jill apparently was very good with his wrench, and build the Hemi for Castaldo...

OK, so my engine is finally done and here (still to be installed), and the new A&A transmission and converter are on their way, also. Wheelie bars are being figured out..not much room on a narrowed Dana, but should be able to get things figured out exactly, when the drivetrain is all installed and the suspension is loaded more.
Here are a few photos, including a copy of the Dyno. Keep in mind, this is with just the MP cross ram, no sheet-metal intake (I wanted more of an original look for this original LO car). Also, I told him I just may want to take this out on the street occasionally, so Tim Banning went with more of what he considers his "Pro Street" cam; not the usual valvetrain-killing SuperStock cam setup that wouldn't be nearly as well-suited for street use. Tim thought the engine would be near the 1050 hp range as is with JUST a change to his sheet metal intake. I am so bummed that I waited all summer, and now (here in South Dakota) I won't get a chance to try this out until next May/June... but I bet it will be worth the wait. Unfortunately, that's also probably about when my new Demon will arrive, so I will have two cars to get figured out. |
