Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
Kevin,
Jackie and I are so sorry for your loss. We met Scott last year when we dyno'd our motor at Southland's shop. Scott was a great person to talk with and anytime I called he was very helpful. What a terrible loss, there are just not enough people like you and Scott in this world. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Take care, Dennis Breeden |

After reading about this I don't think I can say anything to add but it is all true. It is hard to believe Scott is gone. He always was a friend and we will truly miss him. Prayers to all the family and friends.

Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
As most of you know we lost brother Scott Helms last week as a result of complications of a surgery. Most of you know Scott (Scooter, Fat Boy) and that he had moved out to Louisiana a few years ago to be closer to his brother Kevin and his family and to work at Southland Dodge. It would be nice to see a good showing of racers at his funeral, I am trying to make it myself. If you are an SSSSA member and decide to go, please wear your Association shirt out of respect to Scotts dedication to our sport and to the SSSSA. I saw several racers wearing their shirts at the memorial at No Problem Raceway this week. I'm sure Pat, his mom and Kevin will appreciate it. The funeral will be this Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 10am. Thanks to all who go. Jim

Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
I attended the funeral today in Plant City Florida (near Tampa) for Scott and I have to say it was one of the nicest and moving I have been to in a long time. The Helms family is very close and loving and some of the nicest people I have ever met. I know it was a very hard day for Kevin and Pat but they managed make it through like the champions they are. The preacher (Baptist) did a fine job relating Scotts colorful life to the many people that attended and read many of the comments from this thread to the congregation. There was a very nice video presentation of Scotts life that both put a tear in your eye and made you chuckle.
Scott was a unique individual with a heart of gold and the gift to make friends where ever he went. He could make you smile and forget your problems and was there for you if you needed help. How could you ask for more? I am proud to be able to say Scott was my long time friend and I will miss him greatly. R.I.P. Fat Boy! Save me a pit spot. Jim . |
Re: Prayers for the Helms family are needed!
I just want to say thank you to all our great friends and racing family who have been so supportive in this unimaginable and unexpected loss to our family. All the loving comments and messages, the flowers, the food, the people who attended the funeral and the memorial, and most of all for all the prayers, we say thank you. Scott will be missed so much by so many people but never forgotten. He never saw a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. He always had his mama's back too, believe me! One of my friends who did not know Scott told me when they walked out of the service, she turned to her husband said, wow, we wish we could have known him. He was such a great guy. I will miss him most during racing season because we would always be on the phone listening to Kevin run together when it was possible. He would fill me in on all the technicalities and he could tell me what car every driver was driving and who they were. RIP, my sweet son!
