"Prettier" was a very, very, very tongue-in-cheek comment, just stirring the pot! :DLove the Darts, too! Where would this site be without Daryl's Dart?

Here is one called Bad "bee" Havior I haven't seen posted here. The photo is by Chris Thomas at VanIsle Dragway, Mill Bay B.C., somewhere between 1967 and 1972.

Thanks for posting that Peter. That car is actually Dick Landys LO23 automatic Dart. Note the Cragars with spinners, wheel well trim, and trunk finish panel. Also note its been converted to 69 taillights but it still has the 68 side markers

Got this off the Hemi Cuda forum.
Who is the Dart?
I'll ask over there also.

https://image.ibb.co/dxebjx/v8fm_facebook_page.jpg

per Alex Polewik the Dart in the picture with the Barracuda is the Dallas Hemi LO23 with Ted Detar driving.
(Thank you sir)

Not sure who owns the Dart but Ted DeTar was the driver. I think the same gentleman actually owned both cars. Search Steve DeTar on FB or Drag Racers Past/Present Wichita or something to that effect. I abandoned FB or I would share a link directly.

Do it right rather than rush it. Worst case scenario, you can still trailer the car to the show and display it in its unfinished state.

I was there and saw this wreck. Mancini red lighted , blew the engine and rolled it. Did everything wrong but break out and turn right instead of left in the shut-down area.

Re: Original hemi dart information

The engine didn't blow, the seal came out of the oil pump and started pushing oil. The car was not a factory Hemi car either.

I wasn't familiar with that accident, hope he wasn't injured..... or worse. The car doesn't look repairable either. Sad.

This accident happened at the 1976 NHRA U.S. Nationals. Whatever injuries Ron sustained, if any (outside of being shaken up), were minor to the best of my knowledge.

Its my understanding that it was the Mancini crash that led to the window net rule when a cage is installed.

Engine appears to be tunnel ram equipped. What class was he entered in, MP maybe?

Correct, M/P. I seem to recall this was an original '69 340 car that Ron converted.

Re: Original hemi dart information

The Hemi L0/B0 reunion at Carlisle went well. Had 11 of the 16 cars I had planned show up, wish more would have come but two of the cars I was supposed to bring didn't get done, so I brought a 68 Dart GSS instead. I want to personally thank Daryl for taking his car over to the Mopar Hall of Fame celebration Saturday night, thank you big time! Thanks also to Mark Janaky for bringing his amazing collection of photo's and prior owner text and setting up at the Hurst Reunion, and his presentation at the Hall of Fame celebration! Pics to come...

Re: Original hemi dart information

I like to thank everybody who participated in Carlisle and the cars that came. But what a disappointment it was as far as a turn out and where it was held. Everyone who owns a Super Stock Barracuda - Dart should have been there. What a disgrace even my friend Tony who did not go with his Barracuda. What a terrible job Carlisle did not even mention where the cars where over the speaker. It should have been in the same building it was 25 years ago and not on the outside of the grounds. Sorry Love these car but totally disappointed on the turnout and Carlisle

Re: Original hemi dart information

Seriously? If you missed Elkton 2006 and Salem Ohio 2008 you missed the boat sir. From what I gather 11-12 originals were there at Carlisle and that is amazing. To see one is a rarity. Two together, almost impossible. , You have a better shot at seeing bigfoot than seeing 11-12 together in one zip code. Liteweights car was there and it's as good as they get.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Sorry I missed it. Would have loved to bring my LO23, but it's extremely difficult to break away from work for that long. On the bright side, I did get my car to the dragstrip to try out the new 604 FHO hemi, and it is an animal! I gotta get used to the wheelstands, so I can do this car justice, but it is definitely a high 8-second car!

LO23 07-22-2018 09:03 PM

Re: Original hemi dart information

As you can see, we were dealing with "first time at the dragstip" issues, getting the suspension dialed in, slowly increasing the shift rpm, rev limiter, etc. It was running 9.5s at 142+ mph, and I wasn't even doing full-throttle passes, with a LOT of room left to go with the revs, etc. I expect to see an 8-second time slip my next time out.. so long as we get that suspension dialed in. As addictive as the feeling of the nose climbing skyward is, I want to be certain that the car is going straight up and straight down every time before I start really launching hard and staying hard on the throttle the whole way. Good Lord, I love this car.

I guess I am spoiled having 4 original cars 20 minute away from me and working one. The cars that did show were awesome and all of Marks stuff was out of this world cool! I just thought 50 year thing...

Re: Original hemi dart information

I tried the best I could, there were 16 cars scheduled and two of them I was supposed to bring, but they didn't get done in time. I did bring the black 68 GSS 440 Dart, and it is the best in the world! It was cool seeing several cars that have not been out in quite a while, so I was happy with that. Where was the Tom Myl car?
