The Regal is the only one de-factored to 163. Makes it an R, T, U car.
The full size that makes V is 176 hp..In other words not de-factored like the Regal.
Only 302 FFFords can get reduced, across the boards, I guess.

So, how fast did the Doolittle / Mc Kay , Jewell black car ever go? Seems to me it should go plenty fast.

12.97 in R. 13.25 in T. Not a good race for the de factored FFFords it would just be a punching bag.

There is nothing cheap about a clean regal or grand national body either.

So, If a guy had a very solid 1986 Grand National, what would need to be changed trim wise to run this combination? Do you think that the interior would have to be changed? How about the hood?

(Since it's a radio delete, it needs to be a racecar)

Re: Some "Dime Rockets" for the 4TH!

Nothing would have to be done. The car being referred to was a grand national body. The engine parts are really getting kind of scarce

Billy, Do you have a 4.1 sitting in your collection? Somewhere around here I have some heads and maybe an intake...

Paul, Let's look at it this way.
Natural T car, so in U/SA , it weighs over 200 lbs less than a 273 Plymouth (2 bbl, 174 hp) .We recently saw one of those running .85 under.
So, how much faster would the Buick be in U/SA? I'm sure you have an idea.

BTW an old clapped out Regal ,231 can't be worth too much ..It can be an 81 or newer, I would think. ;-)

Sorry Daren, but I don't. I might be able to scrounge one up. For some reason, there's a dis-proportionate amount of Buicks in my neighborhood.
If you're serious, Brian Seibenik used to race one. So did Ken Sharp.

If I were 20 years younger I would build a 1962 Pontiac Tempest 115 hp 4 cylinder for W/SA. No cylinder head specs.,no carb specs, no piston specs..

So, is the GM 3800 a dead deal?
Don't see much for parts for any V6 anymore.

could a 2009/10 challenger with the 300 hp 345 cu and an auto be made competitive in Fto H stock not cheap but neat car .

This the polar opposite of cheap. I am partners on a build nearing completion as it was a one off build.

Wait! Doesn't that have the rubber driveshaft and transaxle?

Idle curiosity...

No specs on a 2010 dodge Charger with a 3.5L V6. Bet that would be in the "T/SA" area. Start it off at 170 hp.

Not exactly, Marty
It has a steel bar, held in a bowed position, by a series of rubber encased bushings, all inside a bent square tube. The idea was to give it more flat floor space.
It was billed as a 6 passenger car.
In any case , it's way too bizarre for me, and that's saying something. ;-)

Yeah, I should have said flexible driveshaft. I had a 63 Tempest convertible that was going to be senior year of high school wheels - until my brother blew up the transaxle.

I have a 2016 Challenger with the V6 230 hp ran 14.5 @96 at a iffy track . Not in classification quide . wonder what it would run preped as a stocker .

none of the v6 models are in the classification guide.

I guess either the manufacture or someone has to submit something for the V6 combo. Surely not a "dime rocket" but the "new"Challenger is 15 yrs old. 50 yr old cars are good to go though.

might not be a dime rocket, but if we can get them in to the guide, it would be a new source. it would be great to see the 6 cyl mustangs and camaros added too

Re: Some "Dime Rockets" for the 4TH!

Since Paul Wong and I got into building the 5.7 street version. I always wondered why the V6 wasn't in the books. Sure are more of those then Hemis I bet. The SOHC 3.5L has had some changes here and there. Don't go by me. I haven't researched it a ounce. I think it was 215 hp and thru the years was pumped up to 230. Get some generous NHRA person to start it out lower than listed. A real street car with some small mods (headers and what ever) might run index..

How are you going to put headers on an engine with only one port per bank?

GTS340 07-05-2023 11:02 PM

Re: Some "Dime Rockets" for the 4TH!

carefully?

Re: Some "Dime Rockets" for the 4TH!

I'm fairly certain the 3.5L used through 2010 had 3 exhaust ports in the head, it's the 2011-up 3.6L that doesn't.

GTS340 07-06-2023 12:51 AM

Re: Some "Dime Rockets" for the 4TH!

Not my concern either way. The SOHC engine has 6 exhaust ports if your worried. Your talking about a DOHC engine with one port.

the exhaust pipe bots up directly to the head. i wonder if a stepped exhaust would be a pseudo headers

The Mustang from 2011-2014 has the 227 V6 in the guide. There's actually one racing in Div. 1 in M\SA. Then in 2015 with body style change to what it is now the 138 Turbo 4cyl. is in the guide.

Re: Some "Dime Rockets" for the 4TH!

I had to look at it now that I opened my mouth. So hopefully I'm close. If not forgive me. The Dodge 3.5L SOHC is listed as 250 hp and ended in 2010 models. The 3.6L DOHC V6 is rated as 305 hp. 8 speed transmissions came into play 2015. The same 3.6L in a Charger is rated 292 (exhaust or tune better in the Challenger?). Now at the same time the 5.7 Hemi is rated at 376 hp and is in the book at 300. If either V6s were in the book, which they should be. I would think those combos should get the same percentage off on their advertized Hp ratings to start. Not like there is a mad rush to build street 5.7 Hemis either. Some younger folks like new cars. Me too!

Smedley/Unterseh have been doing these for years. They might argue the "Dime Rocket" label with you.

Rick Unterseh has an '81 he runs in O and P...I'm pretty sure Neil Smedley built the car originally. Not a bad combo...but a sensitive engine.

Soooooo, who is Andrew Fidler DF/S '05 Cobalt? He sounds like my kinda guy! The word that I got was that he drove the car in. A little bit more improvement and he should be under the index anywhere.
