Re: lets have fun...who is the best Jr. stocker of all time?
Has anyone mentioned John Barkley, or the Wheatley Bros.?
Cal Method payed his dues in that era also. It was probably a little after the Jr. Stock days when he used to set the record at just about every points race, switch bodies, change classes etc. to get it done back when they awarded points for setting records. |

this is it. I can still remember it before it was painted. It was raced at US 131 Dragway a lot. I don't remember what year it was, I THINK it was the December of 1968 when my big brother and I drove to Muskegon to talk to Dave. I found out Dave was going to Pomona. I told him how much I liked how that small block sounded with the fenderwell headers so we went out in the garage, he hooked up the battery and fired her up. WOW. I was hoping he needed a free crew member at the Winternationals, but was told the ramp truck had bucket seats and there were only two.......... Doug Kahl was a weekly regular at US 131 at the same time. Other favorites are the Monster Mash 55 and anything by Jere Stahl. Chevair (spelling ?) had three or four other drag cars at US 131 every week, including Don Holben's mentor Dick Griffin. My ride at that time was a low budget 56 wagon 225 horse stocker and then switched to a 65 Impala 327 -250 hp 4 speed that was a fun ride. Phil |

Jim,
George quit racing after the '81 or '82 Gatornationals. He sold his Chevy II to Ned Smith at the Gators and dropped it off at Ned's on his way back home. Here's a link to some pics of George's cars. Bob Rice http://dragnut.smugmug.com/George-Cureton-Collection |

Wow, thanks Bob, that is neat. I never knew the car was damaged in that towing accident.

Jim,
The wagon is alive and well and is slowly being restored. Bob |
Re: lets have fun...who is the best Jr. stocker of all time?
Bob,
I think that car must have changed hands several times through the years. I made contact with a guy up in Oil City Pa. that used to have that car too. |
