Actually, any discussion about Stock at Indy should begin with Roy Hill. After yesterday's close call with Marty Buth, "Uncle Roy" outdid himself this morning. Another monster wheelstand that ended when his Cobra Jet brushed the wall near the 330-foot clocks. I haven't seen the car so I don't know how much damage was done but I can say that it had the potential to be much, much worse. Thankfully, as he was going right, the front end came down before he contacted the wall. At any rate, I'm sure you'll see some amazing photos because there are at least a dozen hard working media-types out there this morning. And yes, Roy does still operate a driving school so if you want to learn some of his techniques, I'm sure he's willing to share.

.

I don't think any guy who consistently can't keep his STOCK ELIMINATOR car in his own lane should be celebrated and I certainly don't want to learn any of those techniques.

Settle down, Mr. Anonymous. My comments about Roy were clearly tongue-in-cheek. He certainly isn't the first racer to have an issue with wheelstands and he has been the main topic of conversation so far at Indy so that makes it worth reporting.

By the way, would this be a good time to point out that Roy is not yet qualified for the Indy Stock field and he has one more chance during class eliminations?

I agree. I looked at the video of the first one and the car didn't even have a wheelie bar.

Rules say you gotta have one if the car is capable of lifting the front end 12 friggin' inches. That was, like 12 feet! I would like to know if he showed up for subsequent passes without one and, if so, why was he allowed to run?

Should have been gone over by tech for safety reasons after the encounter with Marty Buth.

Where is that rule? Never heard of it in Stock or General regulations

There is no such rule. Stock says 48" or to rear bumper.

Sadly, (or perhaps mercifully) Roy Hill didn't make it back for round one of class eliminations. His Indy is over. Everyone can sleep tight tonight.
