You missed my point which is easy to do when people aren't face to face. My point is, sitting on your ***** waiting for NHRA to solve your problems, is not the answer. Stay off the internet and use that time to make an extra $200 per week, then spend all weekend making your car right so you can get to racing. Remember the rules you change are your own rules, not someone else's. I'm sure you have rules and principals you live by that nobody can change, that's how you live and that's it. The NHRA has the same standard, like it or not.

Rules are always changing.
Never sit on my butt to get things done.
I have already impacted several rules changes over the decades communicating with IHRA and NHRA.
So have a lot of other racers..

Your problem is you do not like my feedback.
Instead you dirge me instead.

Re: Crate Motor Class

"D" has impacted NHRA rules, while running one of IHRA's "special" classes?
Which rules would that be, "D"?

NHRA is not going to add classes for a small number of older cars, from a defunct racing association most people would never run anyway. Give it up.

I do...raced at 10 IHRA Events, 5 Bracket at Mason Dixon, 1 at MIR, CCD at Cecil, TriState S/SS and 20 ECIRS races last year.

38 races....does that count?

Not with NHRA. I don't know how fast your car actually is, or what your NHRA index might be, but can you run it? If so, you might try to run a couple, and talk to your division director about who to contact at NHRA.

Ed I can't believe you missed that part of the conversation. I believe his car falls in J in the classification guide but he thinks he should be allowed to run it in R based on its current performance! Lol I think I might try the same deal, what you think they will say?

I don't read all his posts. That does sound like "D". LOL
There are a couple of SS/JA cars I can't outrun. Maybe I could convince NHRA to just let me run K?

Those engines pass NHRA tech. They do at Indy and all over every year. If they pass tech for stock then they are stock. Regardless of your opinion

That good, you are on here enough spouting a lot of bugle oil about how
NHRA should accommodate you and the car you used to race in the IHRA. Sounds like you can move on with a smile. For someone who’s life doesn’t revolve around drag racing you spend a lot time here talking about it.

Just your opinion, since your not tech it means nothing. When guys are disqualified then they’re illegal.

Most racers I know think we have too many classes now. Appears IHRA needed them to have some sort of a car count.

Your right to a pin point.....After 3 years working in Div. 1 with Greg X. and 22 1/2 years with IHRA as their main Stock, Super Stock tech guy I think I know more about what is going on than you. Stock Elim. DIED in 1985 with the cam and valve spring rules. The joke we have today is nothing more than a Jr. S/S category still being called stock. It gets worse every year. Big cams, roller rockers, heads massaged more than the old Super Modified. The aftermarket heads, carbs, etc. has made it a laughing joke to the real stock racers of days gone by. I quit when some where around 15 years ago when Mike Baker (IHRA Tech Director) allowed the acid ported heads in Top Stock and GM performance(Title sponsor with a crazy engineer) rammed the crate engines up our butts. Oh well....enjoy running your borrowed Hemi. I have yet to see any of the single 4 Barrel carbs on those who run that combo have the correct carb. I guess your (Bartons) is the dual quad version.

Re: Crate Motor Class

In my humble opinion,Crate motors water down the program. Sorry your IHRA car does not fit within a NHRA class. NHRA should not have to change their rules to allow cars from another sanctioning body to "Fit" into their program. Kinda like someone coming to America, then wanting to change our values and beliefs to "Fit" their way of life back where they came from. If they want it the way they had it, then maybe they should have stayed where they were, and changed their program. Maybe, if that's not an option, you could go to another place. But remember, Our House, our rules. If you don't like it, go play somewhere else. Maybe there is a reason why you guys just are not sticking with IHRA. Oh that's right, it didn't work very well, that's why your trying to come play in our sand box. Well, most of us will truly welcome you to our program, but you need to play by our rules. Maybe a little harsh, but sometimes the truth hurts.

An expertly crafted answer! Is the converse also true?

There is a difference between what is legal and what "passes".

Your statement isn't always true, anyway. Apparently people have forgotten about the racer who was thrown out of Indy years ago because his heads looked "too stock"... because they were ACTUALLY stock, and not doctored like everyone else's. NHRA was later proven wrong, and the racer barely got a mumbled apology -- no public apology or retraction in Nat'l Dragster! Didn't get to race and never got his money back, nor his class win reinstated.

Re: Crate Motor Class

I'll be honest with all of you that call your selves class racers, I just built a CM engine last year and never got it in the car because of the end of IHRA Class racing. I've been studying the NHRA rule book to come up with a combination to run in my car. The more I dig into things I'm finding out that the NHRA rule book allows all kinds of alternative parts from stock you can use to build your motor. I keep thinking to myself what is stock about this ? My Crate motor sitting on my shop floor is 1000 times more stock then any NHRA stock stuff. If your spending 5k on a set of stock heads, I hate to tell you there not stock anymore. My Crate motor is built to spec as a replacement engine mimicing an original GM engine. This being said it's nothing different then all of the replacement parts you all run in your so called year specific engines. To all of you haters look in the mirror, your engines are no different then a crate motor at the end of the day. I'm still open to building amother engine to class race with you gentleman in the NHRA. For God's sake why can't we all just get along and race together ?

You're trying to drive square pegs into round holes. nhra is not going to accept ihra style Crate Motor cars. Build a Stocker, that's the only answer to "your" dilemma.

Ed Wright 02-03-2018 01:12 PM

Re: Crate Motor Class

Why would anybody not simply build a car that fit the rules of both associations? Guys that did that are not left out now. I raced IHRA every chance I had. It was obvious to me I would not want a car that could only run there. I wanted to support them best I could. Older guys that were racing when AHRA was around could see a resemblance. Besides the check I was never able to cash, I figured that deal was not going to last long.

Why in the world would half a dozen, or so, racers think another bigger association should just add classes & prize money for them? They need to simply own up to their own lapse in judgement. I would be busy re-doing my car.

Without getting snitty one way or the other, what Bruce says is the best description of the situation. Crate motor classes are not right or wrong, but there is simply not anybody racing them. So your only choice to race with a national organization is to build a stocker or a super stocker.
