Now, if someone retags or rebodys a car that is a whole different matter.

As far as I'm concerned, what identifies a car as what it came off the assembly line as, is it's OE stamping numbers & the panels they were stamped on. The rest is only sheet metal with part numbers.

the car below is a 1971 hemicuda convertible. VERY RARE car
It has been fully restored since because the numbers were still on the cowl & rad cradle ID'ing as one. It has been accepted by very notable, high end collectors as being today a real car. This is an extreme case but just used as an example.

As well as a few LO 23 darts out there currently with complete legit history lost body numbers with acid dipping, still recognized as original cars and still valued high .

The entire deck lids / spoilers were made from fiberglass.

I am the one who pulled that Savage GT out of it's hole in Wisconsin. Still sitting in storage in Illinois, hopefully one day it will be back on the road. The original 340 is in a Challenger still, maybe it will be reunited with car too!

Mine came slid on the rear end of the torq bars and were never hooked to the headers for front support. I took them of before they fell off and caused problems on a run. Guess everybody felt the same way as they came off most of the cars around 69 or 70

BO29 and LO23 Hemi Blocks

Does anybody know or have an original block From 68 BO29 Hemi Barracuda or a LO23 Hemi Dart.
My question is, What is stamped on them. Was the first 50 different from the rest?
Trying to find some info on these blocks. I am going to look at one. I want to make sure what I am looking at.

thanks for any help

From what I've gathered is they're late 66 blocks. They have a stamping on the pad by the distributor HC= High Compression.

Jim Schild has all this info in his 1968 SS Hemi book I believe. His email is jschild@htc.net

I did not know if that was correct in the book. I hear and found info that's different then whats in the book. Just wanted to make sure. I herd the first 50 were not stamped. I believed that they would be stamped but just checking.

Pancakes' (and my old) Death Wish is on RacingJunk today. Someone in Baytown has it now. Not an original car but we spent a ton on it when we had it. New quarters, front end, shocks, electronics, fuel, 16V, wheels tires and cage upgrade etc etc etc. Momma made me get rid of it. Has new SS headers setup for a wedge. I have nothing to do with it now. Is it a BO29 no, is it cool and in good shape. YES

I told Jim he should buy it back. Phish

Supposedly it has sold already! It looks like a nice piece.
You sure couldn't build it for that!

I just spoke to the gentleman that has the Cuda on Racing Junk, and the original deal seems to have fallen through, so it is still for sale.
I hope I didn't keep anybody from buying it, but it was supposed to have been a done deal, but I guess we know how those deals go sometimes!
Sorry.

Looking for anyone who has worked with installing the thin reproduction side glass in these cars. I recently purchased the glass and want to get as educated as I can prior to installation.

I have the original SS hood for it. Needs some work as we used it to test hood pan etc. Whoever buys the car can have it. Phish

Phish can you tell me , in regards to the original hood, how was the opening cutout in the hood?
I have seen in numerous pictures from fully cutout to just round holes over the top of the velocity stacks.

Thanks
Bob

Bob
both the LO & BO cars had the whole under scoop cutout then an aluminum sheet was pop riveted to the under side & the velocity stacks through that .

Hey guys. Apology disclaimer...I'm new to the forum...long history of owning/knowing Chevy...but new to Mopar. Please excuse my ignorance.

I've read every page of this Hemi Cuda topic...enjoyed the read. Like many here it seems...I get into the passion of history...ownership...etc. Question of the day is...what is the relationship between the BH and BO related to these cars' VINs? I see some factory paperwork with the VIN beginning with BH...but the vehicle's VIN tag begins with BO? Thanks in advance...

second letter "O" designates Super Stock whether it's a 65 A990, 67, or the 68 Super Stock cars.

Thanks for the replies guys...I don't think I posed my question correctly to get the answer I was looking for. Specifically...would a genuine Hemi SS Cuda have a VIN that begins with BH on the Chrysler paperwork...say window sticker...and a VIN tag on the dash that begins with BO...all other components (letters & digits) of the VIN being the same?

Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......

It should say BO on everything. BH is a street car.

Not sure on the paperwork, I will ask Tom but I do not know if he will remember that. How about the fender tag, if its original

Re: Original Hemi Cuda Info.......

Cars only have one VIN so if the VIN is stamped on multiple things, it should ALWAYS be the same. Up to a certain point the vehicle order number (VON) was on the fender tag instead of the VIN. It sticks in my head that 69 is the year things changed but that could be wrong. If so, the BO car's fender tag doesn't have the VIN on it at all.

It still should have the BO29 on the fender tag

You're right, it's the VIN sequence that's not included, the vehicle type code is on the tag in 68.
