Re: Connecting Highway
Although I do love the idea of sleepers, I prefer those cars you just know from the second you see 'em were meant for one thing and one thing only. Cars like the '68 Road Runner Art & Tex raced for Big Jerry, Froggy's '65 Belvedere, the Cross-Bay Dart and others from that time with that sort of look just gets my blood flowing. To me those are the coolest f-king vehicles ever made. Sure most of them don't have a front bumper, or a heater, or ... anything else. But that's the point. Just raw, nasty, wicked, primered, snorting, high-horse, no-back-seat, dinged up, rough looking machines that mean 100% business and won't show up for less than a few thousand $$$.

Re: Connecting Highway
cammer427,
Had to check up on a 'Bunny-Ride':). My friend says; The 'Bunny' was at Dover late-summer 68', or possibly 1969, with a red 68' Mustang. Which could have put her near the Street-race scene, for a night or two. Car was not a Boss 429 Mustang Pro/Stock like I thought. Could have been either a 68' 428 SS/E Cobra-Jet, or Modified Production. Many Moons Ago,,,so I'll ask for some 'literary license'. They say the first thig to go is the brain,,, but some other things on the body went first:eek: Paul |
Re: Connecting Highway
For alot of us the "rat rod" look (to use modern parlance) wsn't really a choice:o. Once your car got known there was little reason to put any money in cleaning it up and most of us simply put our money in the driveline first, took out & ran it & suddnly, if you were good< your car became known. Since these were alot of young guys, extra money just wasn't availible.
I can remember standing above Connectin or hanging out at the Marina, sometimes for hours just waiting to see a high dollar run. |
Re: Connecting Highway
hemicop,
I can remember (1969/1970), guys were selling the 63' and 64' Dodge Max-wedge cars, because they were not pretty, at the track. Drag-strip racers sold them fairly cheap to street-racers, who of course pounded them 'Unmerciful', till there was nothing left...AHHHH! If they only knew:(,, Paul |
Re: Connecting Highway

www.superstockamx.com The S & K car is car #19 on page 5, John D'Andreas non Hurst car is on page 6. I have been researching these cars for 30 years and would love to correspond with anyone with more info. thanks |

Re: Connecting Highway
Tom,
I sent you a Private Message on the Yonkers Garaged S/S car, originally from south New Jersey. Still searching for Delmar Delaware racing photo's to confirm. Also, the Flemington Rambler sponsored AMX was at Dover for a big S/S event back in the day. And Arnie Goldberg's B/MP car (from Official Auto Parts, Yonkers). Arnie's Javelin 'The American Rat' was a runner. Man that car was light. Also, a true S/S car ended up at Fink's Car Sales (AMC/Jeep/I.H. Scout) in Mahopac, NY (1974). Trying to find the details. The head mechanic from Fink bought it, (second or third owner). Like pulling teeth. Paul |
Re: Connecting Highway
Bunny Hop,
The 68' Mustang was a converted 68' S/S car. An ATI transmission equipped car. It was designed for Match-Racing (Show Car). Not really a legal SS/EA car. May have been a 'FE' 427 with twin-carbed high-riser. She was friends with the Brooklyn-crew, when they went to Cecil County and Capitol. Came to Dover with red-Mustang (bubble-hood), and John Lyles I think had the Hemi GTX. Should have been late-summer 68'? PC |
Re: Connecting Highway
Hi Paul-I PMed you about what to look for on the car. I am also looking for info on the AMX at Finks. It may be the American Image car out of NY. Anyone have other info, pics, etc? What color was it? Anything?
