QUEBEC HEMI DART
Not that's it's a couple of years later and a lot more views I'll try again. Any Quebec/Ontario/North East US folk remember this car , history, pics from the early 1980s? Phone # in ad is LaSalle/Montreal. We have documented this LO23 back to this time when it was advertised in the Auto Trader in 1983-84. We've hit a dead end here. It went to Nova Scotia in 1984, R. Boyd bought it. Possible Gene ONeill connection but we'd like to establish some ownership trail/history from 1983 and earlier. BTW MANY THANKS Mark, Greg, steve o, for the countless hrs researching another mystery dart.

Now that we have some Alberta representation here I've got a recommendation. It's high time that somebody stepped up here and, maybe in conjunction with the Red Deer or Calgary Mopar shows, organized a Reunion of the Old Trapper cars, drivers/owners at one of these shows. You've got a huge historical Super Stock contribution here and it's high time this happened. Cam's car has left the country but we all know the Old Trapper fleet are all there. you've lost Jim ,Cam , Dwight but you've got Dick and Albert (wouldn't it be cool to reunite these guys with the fleet) . And Allyn, Rod, Jim W. and Harold. I have 1 of Rhonagon's hemi street cars, I'd bring it. This needs to happen now before we lose any more of these legends. I'm sure a couple more Hemi A cars would "show" up to help pay tribute!!

Cool idea and I'm a Ford guy. Any info on what Allyn Lee is doing and the state of his car. What about Reginald Grise in the other Black 'Cuda. Loved to see those guys down here at Mission. We have a couple hard running Hemi's that are always fun to watch.

Re: Original hemi dart information

I just joined this site specifically because of this thread. I am amazed at all the knowledge on here and the rare photo's that continue to be posted.

I was wondering if anyone had some additional photo's of Bob Gaudreau's 'Candy Cuda'?

There was one posted with the car in 69 rear trim on here that I had never seen. I have always been interested in seeing what cars "switched" to 69 trim in 1969.

Seems to have been a popular car and I was told it was featured in a magazine - just not able to find many pictures on it.

A buddy of mine is the brother in law of the original owner of the Suppa Cuda. He verified it was the mule car and he purchased it from Arlen Vanke. He is still kicking himself for letting it go.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Bob Gaudreau's 'Candy Cuda' was featured in the
December 1969 Super Stock & Drag Illustrated magazine.

FR,

Not everyone who bought these cars, fell in love with them.
Many owners were selling them by the end of the year.

If you wanted factory backing, you had to race them, and follow the
guidelines set forth.

Re: Original hemi dart information

FR,,
Chuck Poole, the wheelstanding driver got one of the originals.

Sponsored by Arden Chrysler-Plymouth out of Sacramento, California.
It was an SS/BA automatic, called 'Holeshot'.
Raced at Fremont Dragstrip, Northern California.
Won the SS/BA class at the 1968 AHRA Super/Stock Nationals at Fremont.

Also in 1968, the other wheelstanding driver Wild Bill Shrewsberry, got a 68' 340 GTS Dart
for E/Stock, by the Los Angeles County Dodge Dealers.

here are couple of Cam Noseworthy's Crosstown dart as it looked just before it left Canada. It apparently left in fine style having appeared at Mission BC vintage drags towed into the strip on a trailer towed by a real HEMI CUDA. Love to see a pic of that. Dart ran real well, yarding the front end. Went south to warmer clime.

I have had a pic of that car in my room since I was a kid - the story is interesting.

That team owned a original BO29 and a lady lost control of her caddy and smashed into the original right thru the garage - they used parts from the wrecked original and built another car.

Car had a beautiful paint scheme.

Nice car but good Lord, those slicks are ridiculously large! Is it really necessary to run more than a 14 x 32" tire on a less than state-of-the-art Hemi Super Stocker, especially a vintage one? I mean with all the traction availalble via the modern tire compounds, concrete track surface and liberal application of traction compound on it, you'd figure that would be more than enough tire.

I remember seeing the "Lil Super Cuda" .
Candy Red and gold leaf just like it's big brother.
The day I saw it at the track, it had a red primer, passenger side front fender.
I do not remember who drove it.

M68, yeah the rear tires on Cam's car were excessive. I tried buying that car in '99 and there were some serious concessions done to that car for speed regardless of originality, rear rails were relocated inboard for those huge slicks. Regardless a neat car with lots of western Canadian racing heritage. Somehow i ended up with a few of the leftovers from that car a while back. Sadly Cam passed away last year.

Sure like the look of the skinny tires on the back of the Hustlin Hemi...what are those 7" rims with 9" slicks? what was the tire of choice up front 6.70x15, 7.10x15? Finally found a set of 15 x4 Cragars for mine but I need to change tire size.

'The Hustler',,,,,,,,,,,,Larry Cooper
SS/BA,,,,, Dodge Dart out of 'Holiday Dodge',,,,Louisiana
June 1968 NHRA Record Holder @ 11.10, entering the 1968 NHRA Springnationals

Jim Hale, in the Norcross Plymouth Cuda
SS/BA from Fort Smith, Arkansas

McBroom Motors, Cuda
SS/BA from Pampa, Texas.

Manhattan Speed Shop
SS/B Dart from lower Manhattan, New York City.
Also ran A/MP at New York National Speedway and Suffolk County Raceway in 1968.

KB,

One of the first magazines to do a feature on the Hemi Cuda,
was Super Stock & Drag Illustrated
June 1968, of Sox & Martins SS/B.

The photo shoot was done in late-March 1968 or early-April.

That car won the SS/B class at the 68' Springnationals, beating Arlon Vanke in the class finals.
Ran a best of 10.43 (.42 under) the 10.85 index.
But broke (spun a tire off the rim) in the 2nd round of S/S Eliminator.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Mike,

I'll have to search for the magazine regarding the 1968 Hemi Barracuda.
The car was originally purchased by a 17 year-old kid out of
Southern California, in May 1968.

Not sure what dealership had it. It was a long time ago.

Re: Original hemi dart information

Paul,
I worked at Town and Country Dodge from '69 to '71 and knew the origional owners of the "Wild Fire" SS/BA '68 Dart. I was told that there is a Robert Alton (Alten?) listed as one of the purchasers. Did his name ever pop up in your research. Thanks for any info you can give!
