Re: Diesel Head Gaskets O/T
The truck is back in my possession, the new short block got to the dealer ahead of
the complete long block so that is what I got along with one new head to replace the one that popped the headgasket it was warped. Truck seems to have much better power, etc. Going camping in one week so will see how it does towing the travel trailer....maybe better milage?? :) Thanks again for everyone's imput, it all was helpful. |
Re: Diesel Head Gaskets O/T
philip one thing to keep an eye on is the coolant level,if the dealer didnt get all of the air of the coolant system there could be a air pocket and it may cause the egr cooler to fail, just make sure coolant level is up fyi GMONDE

Yes, I talked with the tech before I picked up the truck and that is what he said to
keep a eye on. Thanks for bringing it up. |
Re: Diesel Head Gaskets O/T
I do a lot of 6.0L ford heads for a nearby performance shop, custom vavle job, porting, and decking. Any way I have seen that every set of heads that come in needs at least half of the ex. seats replaced due to cracks but in general one third to half of the heads are cracked so bad that they can't be reused generally between between the injector and ex. seats. These are of running trucks to! But to solve the head gasket problems we groove the heads for o-rings and they hold up even in the engines with tuners and custom turbos. If you don't like the chevys get a dodge cummins won't be as quick empty but loaded it will out pull the 6.0L and last forever.
