Re: Qualifying Change
Still does not address class runoffs with an odd number of cars!! Who gets the BYE -- every division is different. It needs to be in there. Some give it to the fastest qualifier some flip quarters. NHRA says flip for it depending on what division the race is at. I have been the fastest and didn't get the bye.

Re: Qualifying Change
Jack, It's easy: put the correct front clip on the LT1 cars, add the second carb to the Shelby 428, and use the correct engine in the Dodge.
Things that are wrong-- fix. Rods have a service life-- rods can be like seat belts -a 2 year life. If not a service life give us all the big Chevy rod, not just the Fords and the Pontiacs. All combinations without a current replacement head get Eldelbrock heads or every one uses stock castings. No Dove F-5 heads. Camshafts Stock lift or "The optional .527 lift" Now is the time to get this fixed, or everyone should get to use the gifts that only a few have now. Remember the big hood all the 68-72 Corvettes had? They took it away and got the cars correct. It can be done. |
Re: Qualifying Change
Larry -- Great ideas but where do you stop? How far back do you want to go ? Junior Stock -or- should we try "Pure Stock" again ? I personally liked "pure" but tech was hell ...........

Re: Qualifying Change
Daran, it's real simple. Find an old pack of playing cards and put just a few pairs of assorted numbers in your glove box along with the Joker, that one's for the bye if you need it.
Been in a few situations where it helps to have a non-partisan person do the shuffling though, I just love the word JOKER though, LOL What I find is, going from division to division is if you tell the staging control guys that you've got it handled, they'll actually appreciate you once and a while !!!!!!!! |

Re: Qualifying Change
Daran, I think this is how it goes. All the racers involved have to agree on how it will be done. Fastest car , flip,or pick from a hat .IF they cant agree,go to the staging lanes official , and he will decide. This is how it has been done at Indy for the last few years.

Re: Qualifying Change
Gump,1998 cars go through the air better than the early ones do, also I believe the spoiler is lower. This gives the driver the ability to stop the clocks with front spoiler instead of the front tires improving E.T. Whoever raced Jeff Hefler always had to judge the spoiler instead of the front wheel.
Kenny, I cant beat Santa Clause so I just give up. See'Ya at Indy!!! |
Re: Qualifying Change
Larry -- You've got your facts wrong -- Any Camaro or Firebird 93 to 2002 can change its ride height in a matter of minutes .(Well maybe more than a couple of minutes but you get my meaning )..throw some small tires on the front and waa-la.........its very low in the front ! !
