I just talked yesterday with a guy from AMT that did some of the programing on their paint robots & he said thay were painting the new Camaros right now. He also side that the windshield was so short that they had to change the way they programed the sealling robots (the ones that seal the dash & all ther seams) he said this was the frist car that the robots had to open the doors to get inside...he said all other cars they just go tru the windshield opening.

GM just announced a $ 15.5 BILLION dollar lose. At this rate there will not be a GM to built the camaro !!! Things are very bad and if they build the camaro it will end up just like the SSR and the GTO all the hype when introduced and then fell flat on it's face after 6 months of sales..

Hey, my buddies Muckstang GT weighs 3900 lbs, it can go 9.80 in eighth mile with Fords 5 speed auto. It's stock stock and has beaten 6.0 ltr GTO;s, Hemi cars aren;t even a good race!

I wouldn't get your hopes up! Around here they are closing/merging Buick and Pontiac dealers.

If the market for overpriced and overweight Camaros is small, how tiny is the Firebird market??

Bobby,

I visited the ST Catherines assembly plant in Canada where they built the Camaro/Firebird. They all come out of the same plant, just different fenders interior and trim work. It would add to the success of production, not take away. That plant was capable of 1000 cars a day, and they were only selling about 300-400 a day. Maybe they should make a Saturn, Buick, Cadillac, and Tunnel Port RA-V version, too. ;) Remember the original LS-1 was the 1969 Pontiac 400 RA-IV, and the LS-2 was the 455HO. Funny how those newer engines more closely follow the Pontiac design. :)

Lynn,

The 1969 Camaro and Firebird were probably the best looking models of the entire production run, but this new design appears to be a fat fastback homogination/clongomeration of styling ques that don't look anywhere as good as a Challneger or Mustang.

I agree since the cars would be sharing a lot of components the design/assembly costs for a Camaro/Firebird combination would be lower, I don't see enough Pontiac guys to make the car work. Unless it is way better looking than the Camaro, which then would't hepl the sales volume.

The last 3 new GM cars we have owned had interesting problems, I'll just recap a few:
Brake failure at 1,500 (yes, that's hundred) miles and again, Anti-lock brake system failure at 40,000 miles because the control module was mounted in the wheelwheel and corrosion ate into the interior of it, "Clogged fuel injector at 20,000 miles "becuase we used BP gas and they are not good fo GM cars." ???, Interior filling with water becuase some water dam pad moved in the vent area. ???
And the latest power window failure on a car where the driver doesn't smoke or use toll raods and drivers with the A/C on.
At a time in history when the country has more drivers than ever before, it can't be good when your sales are down each year.
