Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????

I am getting some good information about the stocker head rules for 2009. I am going to have my son talk with the teacher of his clas more on this topic, and I hope I will have more to add next week when he come home again. It may be that the couple of stocker this teacher is doing the heads for are just doing this change for 2009. Thanks

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????

I further reveiw of this rule change I find that the teacher at UNOH was very upset that I posted this on Class Racer. I guess I was just trying to find out if indeed the rule was going to be changed per what he quoted to the class. I would think that a teacher would teach these kids the right way in class.I feel there is no reason to get upset with my son, when he was just stated to me that there may be a rule change for 2009. My son understands that I am trying to keep up with the change, so at sometime we will be able to race again in NHRA.

I was told by Div. 1 tech and also California, that in the next few weeks they will release intake and exhaust runner CC's for all casting number heads used in STOCK.

biscayne, if the cc's rumor is true LOOKOUT... many new doorstops available from the high $$$$ racers :)

and why might i add should SUPERstock be held to a higher accountability than the lower class stock heads... always wondered that issue... lets pour 'em & let the chips fall where they may !

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????

sounds to me like it is circa 1974 when NHRA changed the stock rules making the stock class cars either quit or up the ante and rebuild ($$$) their car and move up to super stock. That was NHRA s way of forcing the stockers to move up to super stock cause in those days you were lucky to see 25 or 30 super stockers at a national event when 200 to 300 stockers were showing up! Since stock is getting bigger now than super stock and money is now a bigger issue for super stock racers, watch if in 2010 NHRA does the whamie thing to stock class cars AGAIN ! Why I will never race NHRA !

BTW: we were acid porting our stocker heads back 1969 !

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????

The change from stock to super stock was in 1972......The bogus head and intake stuff really didnt take off until the stock rule was changed in 1985 to allow any duration, overlap, and valve spring pressure. Without those changes the acid etching and porting being done then was not as effective.

Ah, I stand corrected. My memory is not was good since I am now 64 yrs old ! LOL

But wasn't the rules change for stock for the 1973 racing season, but was mandated by NHRA late 72'? I remember running my factory backed 72' Olds M/Stocker in 72' under the old rules for stock.

Re: Stocker Head Rule Change????

Im 62 and I ran a '69 Corvette in the old stock elim. with 7 inch tires in '70,and '71. I HAD to change to S/S in 1972 since the stock rules required an almost "REAL" stock car as produced except for blueprinting the engine, no bogus stuff and as built right off the show room floor with OEM exhaust manifolds, real DOT tires (not curent DOT slicks with tread), real stock cams (no rate of lift type), etc. In '73 they expanded the weight breaks and some of the guys started to "PUSH" the rules (Buicks from Calif.) and a few others so as the time went on the rules allowed more and more until they were almost like Jr. stockers from before with 9" slicks and nothing older than 1960 as today. Remember the C/SA battles of the S/S magazine 6 pack, the Calif. Buicks, and a couple of 428 mustangs? The rest as they say is HISTORY.
