Re: Off season maintenance

Be sure and check the pedal components under the dash, on some cars it is hard to get to, but trust me, it will be worth the trouble to make sure everything is in safe working condition! ;)

Woodro makes a good point. Right about the time that he had his wreck at Gainesville, I was about to make some updates on the pedals and brakes in our stocker.

At that point I went out and made sure I put in a stop so that the rod could not fall out of the master cylinder. I welded a nut where the brake light switch would be, and used a 1/2in bolt and another nut to lock the bolt in place. It is a little overkill, but now there is no way that the brake rod can fall out of the master cylinder on my car, unless the master cylinder physically breaks off of the firewall.

Believe me Lee, i don't think you can be overkill in this area. However i had the stop and a bracket to keep the rod in but my rod came off the pedal end, it was held in place with a 7/16 bolt and a nylon lock nut which was installed in 98, so apparently over the years of use, the nut backed off, at a very dangerous time! Believe me, my next one will not come off like that one did!

I went out and made sure I had Grade 8 hardward holding the rod to the pedal. Also has a nylon lock nut on it with a lock washer. Every time I am down in the pedal area working, whether it be wiring or whatever, I be sire to check that bolt.

FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ! ! ! They crack. Throw a piece out, hit the brakes, (which we never do), you're going on your head.

Brake cailpers, check the bolts, i know it was a dragster, but thats what broke at the Dutch on Derrick Clark to make that dragster into a hall tree.

Everybody have a great time off, I know I NEED it!!!!!!!

I put my car on jack stands to keep dead weight off the tires all winter. Don't know if it helps, but can't hurt any.
