Re: National opener in Div 6

At DIV 7 Ntl Open @ Sac last year they let a half a dozen local bracket cars compete in the combo. No tech what so ever....just a car number and class sticker and you were good to go. Unfotunately, it left a bad taste for a lot of the guys. Many said they wouldn't come back....As you can see the turnout was poor this year.

The issue of these runs counting towards the AHFS was brought up.....Do they or don't they count?

last year at the medicine hat nat open there was fuel check and scales, and nhra tech guys running the show, was no heads up but no duplicate class cars either. this year in ashcroft no fuel no scales, but all nhra tech guys on hand. ashcrofts scale looked pretty sketchy, either way i probably would have passed it by anyway. l

As Bill & Dion mentioned, Ascroft & Bremerton esentially don`t have proper, functional scales. Since Mission does, and holds a LODRS race, I would hope that the scales would be used there for their Open race. I agree that weight & fuel should be checked, as unless things have changed, you can set a NHRA Nat`l record at an Open. I think that between the economy, and the fact that a Open "double header" weekend now only counts as 1 grade point for 2 races, the farther away Opens will have lower Stock & S/S car counts.

As far as I know at the "Hat" as long as there is fuel check and scales, there "should" be heads up. There was one instance, I believe 2 years ago when the NHRA fuel check equipment wasn't working at the Hat. That's another story. It is my opinion and one that is shared by most Stk/SS competitors around here that there should be heads up during eliminations period. As I recall when I spoke to NHRA about this I was assured it wasn't the norm. The last time I was at Bremerton a few years ago the scale was operative. Ashcroft tried to use theirs a couple of years ago and they fought with it all weekend and finally gave up.
I would hate to see the National Open series eliminate Stk/SS because of scales and fuel check, however I certainly agree that it opens up for debate the whole AHFS and records situation.
To allow bracket cars to fill a field is garbage. I wouldn't go back either.

i agree and i have no problem with heads up although im easy pickin's as i am 'working on my combo' i just wanted to point out that there is the equipment to do the proper class racing policeing at some national opens in our division.

No bitchin here. Just stated facts......
Seems like a slap in the face to all Class racers doesn't it?
Attend a Stock/Superstock combo with a class car at correct weight against a 750 Holley topped bracket car at who knows what weight knowing that the car couldn't run the index if it was at correct weight with the correct carb and intake.
Then to top it off have those runs count against the AHFS

The National Opens will be run the way by who ever makes the final decision on how it is run. Since we do not have a situation where an illegal car has gone 1.40 under, it is not necessary to worry about it until it happens. Most people run national open to get grade points. This makes it a true money bracket, the best packages win..

i think that an open should be just that. let it all hang out with no worry about ahfs on monday. kinda like no penalty from comp during qualifing. wheels up and balls out!!!!!! damn the torpedoes!!!!! :)

Dion,
You've come a long way in a short time. You showed them how to drive in Ashcroft. Don't sell yourself short, you're doing a hell of good a job as far as I'm concerned!
