Is this a hypothetical question or did it actually occur?

Re: Driver changes

i was told when asked about someone else qualifying your car is that whoever makes the final qualifying pass is the person who has to drive the car in elems...i have seen and heard of plenty of people making the first pass in a car and then someone else making the last pass and then racing it....i dont know about 2 different drivers swithcing cars but i know if my dad makes the first pass and i want to be the one who races than i have to make the last qualifying pass..not suer if this rule is for a natl. only though and i ver never had to do this just thought i might have to awhile back

Re: Driver changes

If you change drivers you have to change the #s on the car.I guess the tower personel have to stay on top of that.Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Re: Driver changes

I guess there must be an NHRA version and an IHRA version. My understanding under NHRA for a national event you had to make a driver change before you got your credentials, thus running the correct competition number on your car when qualifying and racing. Once qualified that was it. At divisionals I have no idea what the rule is. Seems like they make them up as they go along ...

Joe,

Without actually knowing who/where, this is a moot point and it will happen again!

Re: Driver changes

Yes, Billy this is my point, the ladder was changed to suit the circumstances. There were fewer cars on it than registered in the race. I'm happy for Pete, just not so impressed with the way it was handled. And yes I took my concern to the race director and was told that THEY decided it was to be done that way because of a GREY area in the rule book. My rule book seems to be a misprint cause it's in black and white. Now I don't really look at the qualifying sheets too much other than to see how many cars there are I just run my junk as hard as I can and what ever happens - happens I'm not smart enough to try and put my stuff in a certain spot. Just think this was a bad decicion made in haste, without regard to how it affected the rest of the racers. Joe

Re: Driver changes

I guess this wouldn't bother me so much, but last fall at the Osceola points race I stood in the lanes watching 4 cars left, one was missing I heard them at least 3 times make a call out for the missing car, finally they went ahead and ran the round. the one car was waved on to make a single which he did, about the time he left the line here comes his opponent. The missing driver jumped out and began yelling at the officials then ran straight for the tower. Not long after this they had a rerun for this guy and he won the round. Hey if you're late to the lanes you're just late sorry about your luck. Now I watched as the 2 IHRA officials told the racer sorry you were late, then they got overruled by someone in the tower, now that is not right, the officials call on sight should stand. Of course there are always some exceptions but being late for a round of eliminations is pretty cut and dry to me. Joe
