Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
Hey Guy's that looks modern if you compare it to the dragstrip on Maui. Maui has gaurdrails part of the way. After that it's sugar cane that will be your catch net.
When going to the drag stripe on Maui you take this 2 track of the main road past sugar cane on both sides, then you encounter a dump area before getting to the stripe. I think Maui may have 1 up on Onondaga because it has 2 old kitchen chairs from the 60's to spectate from. Michigan had a lot of those kind of tracks in the 60's and 70's. Brohman Thunder Bird Kaleva Detroit Dragway (4 wide) Grattan Many I can't even remember MJ |
Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
The other interesting point about Onondaga, there is no return road. They bunch up the cars on the long end until they decide to let the group come back to the starting line. What if someone loses control or braking. This whole deal scares me. It may be much safer than the street but I think ir is an accident waiting to happen. It was a lot safer in the 60's when I raced there with a high 13 second car. I think it is noble and nostalgic but today's cars are too fast without all of the sanctioned safety equipment. Just ask someone who has crashed or went off the end of the track.

Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
You guys are missing the point. Usually, once a track closes the chances of it re-opening are nearly impossible. A little time and money and the track will improve. I give these guys a lot of credit.

Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
Liked the silver 68 Chevelle. It seems to work pretty well. It leaves like my K/Stocker.That looked like a pretty good place to have fun. A few amenities would be nice, but they're probably coming. Keep it up!!

Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
Back in either 1970 or 71 Detroit Dragway had an AHRA national event the had 4 Pro Stocks going down the track at the same time. It was quite a sight to see, wheels in the air, Pro Stockers four abreast.

Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
Nice video, the start of that deserves an Academy Award nomination. Very cool to see the track getting use again. Most of the defunct Michigan strips are still there, Tri City, TBird, Grattan, Motor City and M38 (Brohman) I hope it could be the start of a trend.

Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
Looks like they're having a good time! There was even a 'fart can' car there (red Honda)...just like Main Street of Anywhere'sville, U.S.A.
I liked the green Dart Scamp.................really. |
Re: Who needs gaurdrails!
I love the Dart too, especially the sound. I have watched this one three times, forwarded it a bunch.
