Eddie - I sure know what you mean about the vendors at E-town and I'm sure I don't want to deal with them and the hassle it would bring .Tax advantage sounds good but in this economy - well - lets just say you have to have profits before you need an advantage .

Unk -- Bob Frey .......hmmmmm -- didn't know about that part of his life .Does he share the collection he has or just hoard ? I'll PM you later in the day .

Philip -- Veterans Hospital is a great idea but I really hate to see them split up .

Bruce -- Do you have any idea how long it would take to inventory 30 plus years of this stuff ? I would need several volunteers -- you available ? $50 to $85 each sounds like a huge tax advantage ............One last thing -- my back is going to hurt just dragging these down from my garage attic not to mention the lifting of all the cartons on my cellar...you still in ?

Nitro Joe -- You're in the running ..........Monster database ? Tell us more please .........

Jack,

You have to eyeball the stuff if you 're looking for a fair value. Packing and shipping requires the most work. Or call a scrap man if you want a clean sweep with out much effort.

Jack I'm working on a project right now that will have every car number, driver, hometown, car entry and car type into a database that will go from 1970 till now, i wish i could go earlier but i don't think programs that you bought at the track started until 1970. Anyhow at first i wanted to ad in ET's if i could, but after contacting NHRA i'm finding out i might have more data on sportsman racers then they do back in the day, lol.
Anyhow everyday while no racing is going on you would think I would be kicked back playing x-box or watching tv, no i got this brain fart and started doing this project, might take me over a year, but I will have it done sometime. Eliminators will be Comp, Modified, Super Stock and Stock. I'm working on Comp & modified right now and while I'm at it, D1, D2. D3,D4, D5, D6 and D7 racers, if you have any programs for races out in your area between 70 and now, let me know, I would love to have you scan the pages or even borrow them and get them back to you in a safely manner.
Back to Work, I'm still in 1972
Quick facts
1970 120 Comp entries so far
384 Modified entries, and these was all from Indy program only

I have a SS&DI collection dating back to issue 1, Nov. '64 to the late '70's and every time I think about getting rid of them I catch myself digging back through them to find an article that I remember and want to see again. So, my wife can deal with them when I'm gone.

Jack, It's a very nice idea to donate to a worthy cause. I would think maybe Garlits museum. I'm sure someone would like to have them, maybe a collector. If you decide to donate, donate a few my way. I have some feature articles on my work in several magazines. ND, DRM, DRUSA, SSDI, etc. I am sure some others would like to have a copy of something with their cars featured. Hey, a few bucks, is a few bucks. Send me a PM and I'll send you a few bucks!

I called Don about donating my 4000 plus car magazines and he said he would be happy to have them, then I got an email from a magazine seller who said the Don sells the magazines!

I never got back to Don to see if this is true.

JimR

Anyone need a 1953 issue of Hot Rod? lol!

Jack,I was just relating my experience trying to sell them piecemeal. The figures Bruce is quoting is for mags in as new condition. If yours are and they are from the 60's and some select later ones, those prices are pretty close. The problem is finding buyers. How long are you willing to sit on them?

Ed -- I don't want to sit on them another day as I'm weary just from arguing with my wife about getting rid of this stuff before I'm too old to move them without help .

Bobby Z -- I feel your pain brother but my wife is relentless .

Nitro -- Your "job" sounds like it could take a lifetime .

Bruce -- Yes , I want a clean sweep but not the trash can .I just can't do it .............

Just dump them Jack unless you can get someone to come and pick them up.....I just dumped about 18 of those large plastic tote boxes jamed FULL of magazines (some old and some newer and all brands) and several full of ND and old eastern drag news, drag times. Some from as far back as 1962 &1963. After the first load it gets easy. I made 4 trips (pick up truck bed full) this past weekend because of selling my house and wanting to move to a warmer climate (?). Its a lot of weight to move. It only hurts for a little while. I didnt have time to try to sell them to a collector. They represent a life time of memories but they just turn out to be trash in the end.

Re: National Dragster collection

Donate them to UTI (Exton Pa) or some other automotive school. Hopefully they will see what class racing looks like and maybe some students will get interested enough to get into it. It is a long shot but it could get some new blood interested. Combine that with an invite for the students to come to Atco or Maple Grove to see class racing first hand.
