Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
This car count will probably stay low for IHRA, until they increase their purse or get some contingency. It's not worth making a trip more than 30 miles for a purse of $1500 and about $200 (maybe) in contingency. Local racers near each of these events will be the ones to support IHRA this year, unless a racers just wants to go racing to be going and not worry about any money.
If IHRA takes some of the money they are paying for the "show" and increase the purse to about $10,000 for the winner of each sportsman class and pay a decent amount from the winners purse back, they will get more cars than they know what to do with. Especially if this was a cash purse and you didn't have to wait around on contingency payments. |

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
not that much more. And he is probably one of the few, with all the new requirements. Pretty much have to buy all new cars/parts every 3 years or less and do all the paperwork to get any money. And even then some of them conviently forget to pay you anyway..

Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
I agree with Micheal, and Art most are ther now because they are local. like Patrick and Preston, but Bertozzi and rest this starts a five week straight races Immokolee, Bradenton, Gainesville,Orlando, Gators so its because all races together better chance at money and my motor is further than three feet away but should be together in a couple weeks.

spectator showed to see the nitro cars run, the nitro cars made lots of noise and went fast, people got in the gate for $25, we are at a F I R S T class facility, and you guys don't show up b/c you don't like somebody or you dont agree with this or you dont agree with that. I know I'm an IHRA guy to you folks but believe it or not, I'm a drag racing guy that works for IHRA! I have tracks in my area, NC, that are IHRA sanctioned, if that goes away, I'm screwed! I really wish folks would support Both organizations, we can't survive with one! I still remember that we do this to have something called FUN and we ain't never gonna make a living at it! iceman: Ain't gettin into no keyboard peein contest either! |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
Looks like the people came according to dragracecentral. As for car counts. IHRA did raise the purses this year. It was'nt much but it was something. The contingency list is growing everyday.
Fred that was probably one of the stupidest post I've seen in a while: $10,000 to win in each class. LOL My motor and tranny are hanging too. I'm looking at an inch of sleet on the ground this morning wishing I was there. Chip |
Re: 9 Super Stockers at a National Event?
With all the naysayers about new IHRA format, weather risks, and the facility's horrible reputation to overcome, I'd say both the event and format show hope. Yes the turnout is dismal. But South Florida is demographically challenged for this style of event. The "wives" club drove the track into the ground and chased the quality racers away, some vowing never to return. I as well as others were caught unprepared to enter this event...if I'd have known early to mid-summer I would have shifted priorities and participated. I even considered packing everything up last night in case I could get in this morning, with a half-assed prepared car just to show my support.
From what I've heard, everything is running smooth. Because of the light turnout, sportsman racers will gain a 5th time shot this morning....when's the last time NHRA offered that kind of flexibility at a major event? They bring in the clowns no matter what. The bottom line is sponsor and fan money. IHRA made a good call adjusting accordingly. In this economy if the stands stay full, the show can grow again. In fact I'm convinced it creates resiliency against light sportsman participation. Just remember what NHRA did during the economic downturn....THEY JACKED UP ENTRY FEES. |
