Re: Shop air compressor & PORTABLE generator
X2 on the oil less. Had to put mine outside and plumb thru the wall. Even with the doors closed it's loud. I feel for my neighbors.

Re: Shop air compressor & PORTABLE generator
I bought this little 5.5 gallon compressor from Lowes for about $100. It usually keeps us and everyone around us full of air (some say hot air).

They usually put a 10% coupon in the change of address envelopes at the post office. So I just stop by there and pick up one when I am going to buy something at Lowes. Has saved me many dollars. Good tip. OK I did not read the whole message. This is the one I use for the trailer. Would not be big enough for the shop. But for light work at the race track it can't be beat. I have ran tools off of it though. But just short bursts. Can not keep up with a large demand. Steve |
Re: Shop air compressor & PORTABLE generator
Lowes-Home Depot-Menards -sears all have good quality upright compressors--Try to run the air intake into another room or outside if at all possible really cuts down on the noise----I have some free 20% off coupons for Harbor Freight if you want to go that way too. they too sell big and small compressors--- Just remember to get the BIGGEST compressor(shop) that you can its a once in a lifetime buy sorta like a trailer---you can always buy too small a trailer but you almost never buy too big a trailer---just my thoughts--Comp 387

Re: Shop air compressor & PORTABLE generator
Another vote for the Honda EU2000i. I've had one for 5+ years, it works really well. Just make sure to drain the carburetor if it's going to be sitting for any length of time (Honda includes a drain valve on the carb, makes it nice and easy to drain it into a clean cup and pour it right back into the tank). When I start using my big trailer again (hauling 2 cars) I plan to replace the 6kW generator with a second Honda EU2000i, and get the parallel kit (will probably make my own kit). Two of them are about 1/3 of the weight of my 6kW generator, and much more fuel efficient.
For track use I have a 1.5 hp air compressor from Harbor Freight (cheapo). The Honda runs it okay as long as it has been powered up recently at home (to unstick things and get the lubrication circulated). |
Re: Shop air compressor & PORTABLE generator
Yamaha also makes a nice quiet generator that is equal to the Honda.I've had one for a few years and it's some of the best money I've spent.Works great and is quiet.

Re: Shop air compressor & PORTABLE generator
I use a Coleman PM0431802 Powermate Pulse 1800 Generator, as it has a built-in 12V Battery Charger so that is one more thing I don't have to load up in my trailer..... I know it's not a Honda, but it does everything I need to do on race day.. and costs much less
