There's a big difference in launching a stick car on a two-step vs. launching an auto trans car on the foot brake. I think most would agree it takes more carb tuning skills with the a/t equipped car. This car & carb was built as a 4-speed combo and now it has been changed to an auto trans combo.
That would, of course, require a different carb tune. All I can say is the car used to run in the 11-'teens in Arizona.

Well we've all seen the "POS" cars that get rebuilt from bumper to bumper by the new owner, yet seem to slow down in the process. It's your baby, nobody elses.
Keep in mind you can run a 4737, 4741, 4738 or 4739 on that 440. There not easy to find and not cheap. I remember it took $250 just to get that particular carb. And there's some good books on the AVS that explains the differences in tuning a two-step rod and a three-step rod. Steve Wann would also be a good source of help here (maybe even a core carb).
Good luck to you.

I believe that the part number on carbs in not important anymore .... just in specs for reference. The 440 carb has 1 11/16 primarys/Secondaries and a certain booster/venturi spec. My personal choice is earliest year legal carb (usually) and I like stick carbs for their transitional metering and throttle response on AVS. $100 Bill will buy almost any of my cores! Steve Wann is absolutely best AVS guy in world in my opinion........Pick up an amazing .2 with his carb over anything I have built myself in last 40 years! Rumor has it that people have paid $2500 for one of his top shelf jewels! I will be in Tucson and Vegas if anybody needs help.

Just my .02 John Irving

Jim and Jeff ...... both you guy are entitled to and are probably justified in your arguments ..... How about if I have the number carb you want-- I will just give it to you for free and save you guys the hassle! I will work with you and try to help you get it working. Life is too short for all this..... take it from me. OK?
