Re: If You Could go Back In Time, and Design One Performance Car.

Paul, nice thread....I would bring back the 1961-62 Corvette body style and size, put in a good adjustable rear suspension w/some Cal-tracs and wheel tubs big enough to accept a 10.5" tire...equip it w/built HD 12 bolt 4.56 rear, 6 speed, or a HD auto, and the current Corvette Zr1 motor, plus make available 3 smaller 4.8, 5.3, and 5.7 LS type V8 motors to run lower classes.... Lots of titanium and carbon fiber parts and keep it under 3,000 lbs raceweight, please.....Build 2500 total units WITH vin. #'s both years of a 2 year only build, so they COULD be sold to John Q. Public and possibly street driven....then get them into the Stock classification guide.... Giddy-up... WJ

I'd put my Holman & Moody 427 tunnel port in my '67 Shelby GT500.
Wait I could have done that, except I lost my mind and sold the GT500 for $4,500
(in 1979)

A thread similar to this ran a few weeks back. I'd still love to have seen factory 68-69 Novas with L-88s or ZL-1s,,, and a cowl hood!

Danny,

1970 Chevy II with an 454 LS 7, 4 speed, 4.56 and a little more rear tire clearance.

I second the 65 fastback mustang with the 427.

Musclecar: the 71 Demon designed by the HemiFather for SS, 440 six pack topped by the Max Wedge top half, auto, Dana, max wedge scoop.

Race: 68 hemi dart with all aluminum hemi and bigger carbs.

This is where the the "phantom car" concept comes in! I listed a bunch of them in another thread but if you're looking for specific "race package" cars : Boss 302 or 351 Maverick, ZL-1 Nova, 440 Demon with Max-wedge top-end built like the '68 dart/'cuda, RamAir V Firebird, SOHC '68 Mustang, Hemi-headed 4-4-2 Olds (they had a concept motor in development) or (IMO the ultimate) DOHC '68 Hemi Dart/'Cuda.
All these have proven race engines, so they'd probably be REAL limited production, but they would've thrown the Stock & S/S ranks into a real tailspin!

Any of the 63 and newer Corvettes with a HD solid rear axle from the factory instead of the weak swing axle and maybe one of the GM crate engines such as the 502/502 or the 572.

I'm Mopar,
But it would have been nice to see a 1968 Pontiac Firebird
Factory Super/Stocker for 1968.
Since the 428 was available.
A nice SD-428
12.5-1 pistons, round-port heads, .550 lift camshaft,
Aluminum DP intake, and 850 Holley.
Plus the other proper S/S goodies.
Would have made a nice SS/D car
