Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
Thank you all for your kind words.
I want to state it that I am not in the business of building model cars for sale or to contract my services to anyone that wants a model of their car build. I do not do that. I do not mind giving you any advice off of the board. But I am not looking for any jobs here. I do have a business that I product and sell model car parts. But I am also not her to promote that. I never felt that this was the place to do such a thing, and I have paid advertisements in the appropriate publications that does that for me. Why I started this post was to show you all, The people that I conceder to be "My Sports Heroes", the chance to see my art that honors what you all do. That is it. Thanks you all for the amazing amounts of inspiration your cars have given me and my art. So this post is my THANKS Matt Conte http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/dio001-1.jpg |
Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
Matt,
My compliments on your talents. I use to build model ships and planes when I was little, but not anywhere near as detailed. Ironically, I never got into model cars after I got my first real one. Too bad you weren't here a couple of years ago. We lost a heck of a nice guy who was a racer as well as a talented model car builder - Bud Lefevre. He passed away in October of 2009. I'm sure you would have had a lot to talk about. Thread when Bud took a turn for the worse. http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...ht=Bud+Lefevre Bud's models. http://public.fotki.com/Maliburacr/my-model-cars/ There was also a Super Stock racer named Tony Conte here in the SE who I believe raced a 2 door Nova wagon. Jim Wahl would have more details as they butted heads often years ago. Any relation? Keep up the good work! |
Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
Myron,
I knew Bud very well for quite a few years. It was a big loss to the model car community when Bud passed. I have a model in the works that is being built in his memory and will have a dedication to him on it. No I am not related to Tony Conte. I have heard of him. If I was I am sure that I would be on his crew as I would love to get involved with a Class race team. Matt |
Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
Tony raced a '65 Chevy II wagon years ago.

Real impressed by the backgrounds in these photos: a garage door with rust marks; Jenkins' car looks like it's in a night-time winner's circle with spotlights and billboard ads on the wall; another one with an old-school timing tower.
Do you build the back drops as well? |

At this time the drag strip is in pieces. I was not happy with a few things. I think all of my white lines on the track were too big. So I want to redo that. All of the bilboard ads were all nods to good friends of mine and my daughter. She is the owner of the Chevy and Jaguar dealerships.:p Here are a few shots from when I was building the backdrop. It was just made from foam core board and some modeling plastic stock. I bet some of you SoCal guys see my nod to the late Great OCIR.The track that should had never died but without it's death. I would not have had all of the years of memories at Firebird International Raceway here in Phoenix. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../div708005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...els/dio001.jpg |
Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
Very nice work, Matt. I love the Pyroil and Grumpy's Toy Camaro's, but all the cars and backgrounds look great.
I used to also build models, but that was a long time ago. I still have kits stacked that have never been open. They include mostly Chevrolets; Camaro, Corvette and Nova. I also have the Reher/Morrison and Iaconio Camaro Pro Stock models, still wrapped unopened. Bought them years ago when they came out. Maybe someday they will be started or just keep unopened. |
Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
This is another form of "Small Version"
I got them this morning from Rich Oakes. We are both "Fly Boys" and pass around pictures and info about anything that flies or is military. Check it out. They are a little long, but worth it. This guy is not only a good fabricator, he is a good pilot. (check out the last one!) Hope you enjoy it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpw52j5IjLs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8x-gRguW9U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4xgxUwBbis |
Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
I'm new to this board and I too love Stock and Super stock cars. I don't care about the pro cars except for old 70's cars. I too build models of these cars when I get time. I have been working on a model of my buddy Kip Martin's SS/L Mustang. That is an awesome car. I have the body painted and decaled, I made my own decals for the KMR logo from a big decal he gave me when I lived in Phoenix and worked with him. The roll cage is giving me trouble right now, so I temporarily shelfed it but now that I'm a member of this board I should be pumped up to get back to it. Maybe I can mix that in with the Wally Booth Pro stock Gremlin I'm currently working on. Hopefully I can get some pictures on one of these days.

Re: Small versons of what you guys build and race.
I had won 6 out of 7 first place and won grand prize and first place out of 248 cars when I was younger and I must say you are an amazing builder. The backdrops do make it look SO real. I've always found that when you take a picture on cement it really adds to the realism. I remember my brother telling me I could afford to race if I quit the models, so I did. But that was in the late 70's. GREAT JOB THERE! I too love the chevelle wagon and the others are just as amazing.
Speaking of Wally Booth's Gremlin I had an 8x10 photo of it SIGNED BY him and RONNY SOX when I was a kid and I lost it... |
